i was into some bands on KRS and one day, on thier website i saw an mp3 for a song called, "sad pony guerilla girl." i found the title itself to be soooo appealing to my obsession with sad and tragic things; then i downloaded it and listened to it and BOOM! it was what i had been searching for all my life. i proceeded to sing the lines "i like my neighborhood, i like my gun, we do it in the back of my little car, i am yr girl and i will protect you" for days... sometimes creating "freaked out" stares from my mom and sister. then finally, i think i used some gas money my mom let me borrow to go to a record store downtown and bought A PROMISE based solely on the one song i had heard...so i listened to the other songs and i fell to my knees forever!!!
after that, anytime i had a breakdown of any kind, i would walk in silence to my bedroom in the basement and play xiu xiu really loud and get thru it with them. otherwise i would scream and sing the songs while i cried in my car parked in the driveway or on the road. thats why i feel i have sucha deep and personal relationship with the people in the band and the music.

i was talking to someone online who had a similar fondness for christian death, and he mentioned it... he linked me to the review of _knife_play_ on pitchfork, i downloaded a few tracks, was intrigued, but not sold.... i bought knife play, became very intrigued, and by the time _a_promise_ came out, i was completely sold on the band... on my first listen of _a_promise_, i hated it, although my feelings towards the album have changed somewhat, but i was by that time so addicted to KP, i had already become rather obsessed

i heard about it from my cousin a year or two ago(maybe longer, i'm bad with time). the first album that i seriously listened to was 'fabulous muscles' and i thought it had some good tracks on it. so he gave me some more material. at first i didn't quite like a lot of the stuff i heard, but i just put a bunch of albums/live sets on my mp3 player and listened to it as background noise at work. after a while, the stuff started really standing out when i listened to it at home (when could actually concentrate on what i was hearing). i would start compiling playlists of the songs that i really liked, and a few that i thought were OK, just to get accustomed to the rest of it. then i got to the point where i could just listen to it like anything else.......i think that was about six months ago.

I had seen the movie, and with a conversation with a friend, he told me they was a band called Xiu Xiu as well, so I first got Fabulous Muscles when it came out, and I remeber listening to it in my car for the first time, and when Crank Heart started with the beeps and blips, and then went into the song, I was like Oh my God this is the best thing I have ever heard, then when I Love the Valley came on next I was sold. Got all the other albums, and have been in love with ever since

i was searching for music a couple years ago and thought the name looked cool so i downloaded sad pony girl and then the rest of A Promise and Knife Play. Helped get them down to Nova Scotia when they release Fabulous Muscles and bought all the albums they had and continued with all they released so far.

Questionablecontent mentioned they sang about depressed pornographers or something. I was in a canadian record store on vacation and there was their cd. So I got it, and I listened. Fell in love, but all I had was that cd. Then a year alter I found Knife Play in a backwoods record shop in North Carolina. After that, it was love. Got La Foret at BEST FRICKIN BUY (that made me so happy when I saw it), and a promise off amazon (still my fave, and has been in my alarm clock for the past 5 months to wake up to). I have been hooked since I hirst head "i luv" pretty much.

it was like my junior year of high school (2003?) - my friend read the review of Knife Play on Pitchfork and downloaded "I Broke Up" and "Hives Hives." He told me to download some songs because I would like them (I had been really obsessed with Joy Division at that time), and I downloaded Knife Play. Fell in love. At the end of the summer I ordered it from Amazon, then found A Promise at Tower Records, then bought Fabulous Muscles for like $20 at Virgin Records in Las Vegas the day it came out, etc etc etc.
