I really like how on Fag Patrol you feel like you're just sitting in a room with the band, so are there any other bands that are really stripped down, emotional, and intimate like this one that could be recommended to me? thanks.

lightning bolt the flaming lips
...dokken
but seriously, i can't think of anything even close to that effect fag patrol has. i think it's due to the false starts and jamie's singing voice.
there's a guy who built caves in idaho called "dugout dick" and i have one of his records. it's an intimate sound, but it's closer to an old-timey radio.

fuck buddies' debut album is kinda like that it's called "a storm", bare stuff, it gets less intimate after the first record. there are some tracks you can listen to on his website: fuckbuddies.free.fr

the acoustic demos for the final smashing pumpkins album (machina). simply amazing.
i sort of view the recording of the jamie-only show at emos as another fag patrol as well.

animal collective's campfire songs was recorded with about 3 minidiscs during a live show outside. one minidisc with mic was put inside the porch behind the band which was outside, one was put in front of the stage, and one was put a little into a nearby forest, and the results were mixed together. you can hear little animals, owls hooting, and at the very last song, you hear thunder coming in as it begins to rain. very good live album. the animal collective.

if youre on slsk you can add "to enjoy"
I have all the animal collective releases but I have no bootlegs, and dont really know of any... they are on tour right now though, AMAZING live show, go see them if you can.
(seriously I saw them open for stars as eyes, and mum a couple years ago, and they basically stole the entire show)
