jamie gave this to me in toronto in september. i forget how freddy's name came up, but he said he'd run to his car to give me a copy. i listened to it that night.
it's intense. and amazing.

just curious if anyone here knows the history of TSIAMBSAI and Xiu Xiu. on his website (tsiam) the disc. shows his earliest release as a split cassette (with e meow) in 2003. i was wondering if he was a xiu xiu fan and then started making music. i ask this because the two songs that he has from church point sound not just a little like xiu xiu or even inspired but like he borrowed jamies synths and made them. im not calling him unoriginal or anything of the sort, i think more than anything else i want to know your guys opinion on someone else using a collection of sounds (not that those sounds are unique by themselves, just in recipe) that have been previously recorded that not only strongly invoke the spirit of but partly become a shadow of it. i understand it in a dadaist (duchamp) way but wouldn't he explain that if it were the case?
so what do you guys think?
edit: listened to babyland. feel different. there is so much music out there.

i think freddy may be a little xiu xiu inspired but in interviews and emails hes much more into the obvious morrisey/smiths/joy division stuff, and a bunch of weird synth/noise bands (like d. yellow swans who toured with xiu xiu recently).
but still, id say yes it does sound inspired, but not a ripoff in the least. i find his insecure screaming and wailing about god and his mother beautiful.

god and cancer is the worst song ever. and bedridden and dancing may be the best song in the world.

i tried to order some tsiambsai today but none of the record stores in my city can. i need to get a credit card. this is the worst part of living in a small place, the inability to easily access independent and "harder to get" art.

I've had this for a while now. It's pretty fucking amazing. Freddy is a hell of a person and it sounds nothing like Xiu Xiu personally.

I would feel bad if I called Freddy and asked for a copy after not talking to him for so long. I'll order it when it comes out. Freddy <3
