Hey, I heard about "Juarez" from a friend of mine. I've heard the At the Drive-in song/video (which is amazing) and have done a lot of work/research about spreading the word/trying to stop the murders/rapes. (sorry for all the ////// it's late.) I'm trying to find other bands who have written on the issue. If anyone knows of others, please post them.

have you seen/heard of the film "Señorita Extraviada"? It's a documentary by a filmmaker named Lourdes Portillo. It aired on PBS' P.O.V a couple of yrs ago.
I don't know of any other american bands that have written on the issue...but a mexican "norteño" group called Los Tigeres Del Norte have a song called "Las mujeres de Juarez"... it's about the rapes/murders/"dissapearances".

I've held screenings of "Senorita Extraviada." I'll check that other song out. I heard a rumor that Tori Amos (I think it was) has a song about Juarez too, but I could be wrong.

it's really cool to know there really ARE people working to shed more light on this...it's gone on unnoticed and unaddressed far too long; just that it happens is enough, but there's fuck all being done about it, least of all by the mexican authorities. they're either really fucking incompetent or just don't care...or both.
and i actually ran into some mentions of that tori amos song online yesterday. it's called "juarez" too...and i read the lyrics and they are pretty cool.

I've heard of the Tori Amos song before. I have an organization, but it's kind of run-down right now. It's on yahoogroups and called "Speak Out for Them" There is also some wonderful political artwork on the subject. Check out www.politicalgraphics.org/home.html

I bought a lot of them a few years ago for my organization, but I donated them. Here are some titles: The Maquiladora Reader: Cross-Border Organizing Since NAFTA and Beautiful Flowers of the Maquiladora. I'm going to read Desert Blood: The Juarez Murders, which is a fictional story involving the murders. I'm not sure if it's any good. I had a massive notebook full of articles that I donated too. If anyone's really interested, I could get my hands on it and send some copies. www.amnestyusa.org/women/juarez/ is probably the most reliable source too. I"m going to get some other stuff set up soon. Message me if you want me to let you know when it gets started.

Living so close to the Mexican border, I read about this shit every day. Just last year the Mexican city next to our city elected a new police chief, and 14 hours later he was killed. Things are the worst they've ever been over there. I think they just recently found a house full of barrels which had chopped up people inside. It's so unreal that this is acutally happening so close to home. Scary, scary shit.
PS
If someone could repost the split, I'd love you forever. I own it, but I can't play it for some retarded reason. Hole's too big for mah player. =(
