"The last chapter of the book is about the only one that provokes much thought. The heyday of the queercore movement has passed, the writters contend, but the greatest effect - creating a space in alternative music for queers - will be felt for quite sometime. And with this I agree - the infastruct and the groups and the comminty and the bands that created the homocore have moved on or disbanded. While the music still exists and new bands appear all the time, its not as a visible entity that it once was. But more and more queers are creeping into music - Jonsi from Sigur Ros - and queer themes appear, even by straight song writers - Bright Eyes and Xiu Xiu." gaypunks.tribe.net/thread/0ffd1e71-5c26-4ea8-b53f-b7873259a2bb

Why are bright eyes and xiu xiu always lumped together, I really don't get this.
And whats with the sudden sexuality popping up? I can't open a thread anymore without something about gays or lesbians or transvestites or metrosexuals or cross-dressers. I'm so confused.

i think it could be argued that sexuality has always played a role in jamie's music, although i think it's taken somewhat of a backseat with xiu xiu... he no longer wears dresses onstage (ibopa) or gets blowjobs onstage from drag queens (xitsj), but there is a definate queer element to xiu xiu; it was one of the things that first attracted me to xiu xiu, although i wouldn't say it was (or is now) the primary reason i'm a fan...
and um... i know connor oberst is straight, but isn't jamie bi, or has he been lying to us all this time? i would think jamie would know his own sexuality better than this critic

i believe conor oberst has admittingly been with men on various occasions also, which makes him bi as well.
see: "i want a lover i dont have to love/ i want a boy whos so drunk he doesnt talk"
i read an interview or something where he mentioned that yeah, hes done stuff with guys, but he gets frustrated and annoyed with the how they ask him questions about his "bright eyes" side.

i always thought that line along with the other one were the boy/girl sides of "the opposite sex is more work than they are worth"

Conor Oberst has serious women issues at least, listen to Commander Venus, he's angsty as hell about them.

it was my vague attempt at humor after spending 24 hours awake and 12 of them with my new distortion pedal.
