What would you recommend to get some great pure noise sounds, for example the middle break in "Muppet Face"? I know that's not done with a guitar, but I'm sure there's some pedals that can create similar sounds. Thanks in advance for any recommendations. I'm in a band that uses "structured sound" very much like Xiu Xiu and Sonic Youth where one guitarist will play some chords while the other breaks into chaos, and I don't have anything to use at the moment.

i've been looking into getting a Digitech Whammy 4 pedal. I don't think that it's quite "Noise" but combined with other pedals, it works really well.
do you use pedals for your vocals as well?

A lot of noisy bands (including This Song Is a Mess...) I've seen use the "Death Metal" pedal by (I think) Digitech...
If you misuse it well enough, push the levels really hard, it seems to obliterate any trace of the original "note."
I know Xiu Xiu uses the Big Muff for some of their stuff...
A lot of noise bands use homemade stuff, too, so ask around...

Also (if you're not too embarrassed to use it) their "Grunge" pedal can make some crazy noise too, especially in conjuntion with other pedals...
maybe just deface it so you can't read the word "grunge."

all the pedals listed so far (except the whammy) are only distortion pedals. you're going to want to explore some new pedals to get what you are looking for. take an afternoon, go to guitar center, plug in all the pedals and be that annoying guy making all the noise. at least you won't be the annoying guy playing enter sandman at half speed. Digitech makes a green synth wah pedal, it has a few different setting that will probably makes some sounds you'll like. you'll probably find the pitch shifter pedal can be used to get some of the sounds the whammy pedal can create without all the bells and whistles. a regular wah pedal can be used to make some pretty wild sounds with enough distortion. also, you can put a digital delay at the end of your pedals to get some interesting effects. most models also have a capture and warp effect, you can recreate that twisty synth sound from the end of "hives hives" with it. you should check out these guys: www.teramelosmusic.comthey play their pedals as much as they play their instruments.

get a wha-wha pedal, and plug the input jack into the output port, and vice verca. then use it. it sounds amazing.
oh, and for the grunge pedal thing? pull an ATDI, and put black tape over all the lables.

i second the dd6. they are also great for warping while other people are playing. surprisingly ibanez's newer-ish delay (DE7) isn't so bad and if you are looking for a neat noise type pedal it's pretty neat. these pages may also help. harshnoise.com/this site is a really great resource for reviews on noise related equipment/pedals www.pedalgeek.com/this online store has some great pedals

i really want a loop pedal... Tell me if you find a nice one. I've got a crybaby wah-pedal and I'm planning on stealing a distortion pedal from my dad.

i really want a loop pedal... a line selector that controls two effects loops or a sampling loop pedal?
