I know this may be way in left-field, but the more I think of it, the more I feel that "ale" is a song that Jamie wrote to himself in some sort of self-loathing manner. Any thoughts?

I feel the exact same way about Yellow Raspberry

ive always thought of 'ale' as being a third person song, for some reason it feels like its more directed towards another, something that has been nagging at the character singing, but i mean, its quite possible its directed at himself

i always thought of both yellow raspberry and ale as being directed at another, but now that i think about it, that would make this album full of attacks at others (with pox included as well)... and i don't think any of xiu's albums have ever been this negative towards others... sure, there are examples (support our troops & jennifer lopez come to mind), but usually there is a great deal more introspection than outward focus...

i never thought of 'jennifer lopez' as an attack, but more of like, just telling someone 'hey, you dont have to be stuck in this rut forever and ever, do something about it', i guess i looked at it in a more positive way possibly

but don't you think there's a condescending tone in jennifer lopez? yeah, maybe it's not as violent an attack as "pox", but i wouldn't say it's a merely suggestive discussion of a rut someone is in, but more of a nasty portrayal of a rather pathetic situation
but i think i first thought of it as it's in the second person

I think that the J.Lo was used as a titlle, but the actual song wasn't directed at her specifically.

i dont know about ale, but yellow raspberry seems very direct towards a single individual, or just the gay teen male in general. i am in that category myself and the lyrics are so damn true. beating off nonstop to the escort pages what has changed as you tell your cross hello

well, this thread was quite the downer. maybe it's a bit 'out there,' but i had a sense that jamie wrote the song with me in mind. is that arrogant? i can't argue for or against, not onjectively--but i sensed it, deeply, with a faint jingling of psychic magic. it was my first and, until tonight, sole reaction/interpretation--but a little bit of knowledge and/or reflection from other fans is putting the kibosh on all that. i'm seeing these other takes on it, none suggesting I as the inspiration--and i wonder now, was i wrong?
tho, on the upside, if it's not about me, i can stop worrying about my gigantic fat body and where it will or will not fit. it also solves the mystery of the gamecube buttons, which i don't have. but at the same time, it crushes my quiet hope that jamie wrote that lyric ro foreshadow his buying me a gamecube for my birthday.
all in all, eden is on fire. so it goes.
