Ok, I'm new to the boards, I live in the UK and I'm a huge Xiu Xiu fan.
I love Fabulous Muscles and A Promise and to a lesser extent Knife Play and La Foret (still havent quite got into La Foret).
My collection is almost complete apart from Chapel of the Chimes, I'm just wondering what its like and whether its worth it?

i've always thought of it as the slightly more experimental/noisier brother of _knife_play_ ... from what i understand, the tracks were recorded around the same time as KP, and they felt that these tracks worked better on their own rather than on KP. of course, i could be wrong about all of that.
of the ep's, i would suggest picking up _fag_patrol_ before _chapel_of_the_chimes_. two of the songs on chapel ("jennifer lopez" & "king earth, king earth") were rerecorded on fag patrol, and i personally like both FP versions much more. most of the people i've spoken to at least consider the FP version of "j-lo" to be far more interesting
chapel is an intriguing ep, but it's probably my least favorite release, although i know others who have it at the top of their lists.
p.s. welcome to the board!

this is just my opinion, but chapel of the chimes is one of my favourite releases by xiu xiu. definitely worth it. it was the first xiu xiu release i actually bought.
and i LOVE the chapel of the chimes version of jennifer lopez, but that's just me. still one of my favourite discs to this day.

Buy it just for the Joy Division cover.
I had to buy it from them because nobody sold it here.

I would rank this right below Knife Play and La Foret on my list of favorite Xiu Xiu releases. Dr. Strangelove is right about the Fag Patrol version of King Earth, King Earth being better but I much prefer the Chapel of the Chimes version of J. Lo.
And 10,000 Times A Minute is probably the best song ever written.

i saw that song on a recent [or not SO recent, but not so old] setlist and i was really surprised jamie played it. i read in an old interview that he'd probably never play it live because it deals with his father.
i could easily be wrong, though. i read that interview a long time ago.

I love fag patrol, but chimes is a must own too! Together, they symbolize the two sides of xiu xiu. Chimes also reminds me of more "old school" xiu xiu because I get the feeling of a full band on that CD mroe than the later period releases. As mentioned the JD cover on chimes is great... it's really really great.

he talks about that song in a recorded interview that played on a canadian radio station, i believe. i have the ogg file at home, if anyone is interested. he said something along the lines of it being difficult to play at the time, but that was because his father had recently died at the time of interview. i didn't think he never intended to play it again, though
