Hey, I noticed the bootleg of the show at the Echo was a soundboard one and was curious how that person got to hook their equipment to the soundboard. I'm going to the show in Cambridge tomorrow and would like to see if there's some way I could bring my MOTU and laptop and possibly record the show off the soundboard to my computer or if there's some other solution. Does anyone know anything about how to go about this? It seems as though taping is ok with the band (although Stacie is checking with Jamie for me) and I checked with the promoter Stacie and she seems to be ok with it. I'm just curious as to what kind of recording I should strive for: Soundboard or minidisc? Anyone have any clue?

i recorded both the echo & claremont shows, and here's how each went:
the echo: i asked the soundboard op for a line out, but he said he'd burn a cd of the show for me... so, i'm not sure exactly what he did, but he obviously had the capabilities already.
claremont: the soundboard op alowed me to plug RCA cables into the "record out" jacks on the soundboard itself, and i recorded it into my iriver 340.
jamie seems to be ok with getting soundboard recordings, but i'd ask him at the show when you get a chance, just to be sure. as for using a laptop, that just seems like it would be too large and would possibly get into the soundboard ops' way. fortunately, an mp3 player/recordeer is fairly small, and you can keep it out of their way

Thanks a bunch for the advice Dr. Strangelove (MEIN FUHRER! I CAN WALK! ) I think I'm just going to bring my Tascam Standalone CD Recorder and some RCA cables. Sounds like the easiest way to get a good soundboard recording. Would love to be able to run all the tracks seperately into a digital sequencer so I do my own mix of the show, but I guess that's pretty wishful thinking... true. I think it'll sound nice this way, provided I can pull it off. i recorded both the echo & claremont shows, and here's how each went: the echo: i asked the soundboard op for a line out, but he said he'd burn a cd of the show for me... so, i'm not sure exactly what he did, but he obviously had the capabilities already. claremont: the soundboard op alowed me to plug RCA cables into the "record out" jacks on the soundboard itself, and i recorded it into my iriver 340. jamie seems to be ok with getting soundboard recordings, but i'd ask him at the show when you get a chance, just to be sure. as for using a laptop, that just seems like it would be too large and would possibly get into the soundboard ops' way. fortunately, an mp3 player/recordeer is fairly small, and you can keep it out of their way

Oops, sorry for the tease guys. Looks like I'm not going to be able to make the boot happen. I will have photos though.

Thanks a bunch for the advice Dr. Strangelove (MEIN FUHRER! I CAN WALK! ) you're the second person to respond to my name on a forum with that quote today... was that you, or is this just an incredible coincidence?

Believe it or not, incredible coincidence. I love that movie though. I sold it a while back when I was hurting for money. *sniff sniff*
