i actually had a friend of mine ask me to make a "best of" xiu xiu mix cd for her, and i was unsure if it was appropriate yet

I've made little best ofs to try and lure friends into xiu xiu. I like to throw in some ibopa and ten in the swear jar stuff too, to make it a little more ecclectic and easily digestible.
I think best ofs are definitely appropriate. (the home made ones) of course.
the labels probably shouldn't release one yet, isn't that the sure sign of a nearly extinguished career? yet, xiu xiu can get away with anything in my book. they could quit and start working at mcdonald's , and i'd probably start gaining 50 pounds.

yeah i agree that it's not time for a xiu xiu box set although yes it would be cool & i'd buy it but anyhow i also made a xiu xiu comp that went like this:
