just got back from seeing xiu xiu here in st louis at the lnac. the earliest i could manage to get there was about 8:30 and the show was supposed to start at 8. it was already sold out. amazing. apparently this was the first time the lnac had ever sold out at the beginning of a show and only like the third or fourth time it's ever sold out (apparently it had sold out a few times before, just barely, and just from people showing up later for the 'main attraction') so my friend and i got a number and were told we couldn't stand around near there because it was getting dark and the cops wouldn't like that. so we walked around the neighborhood a bit and about an hour later got a call saying the one of my friend's friends had just got there, and had gotten in no problem. so we rushed back there only to find out its still sold out. but all the other number people had left, they'd moved on to using letters to designate priority for entrance. so we were supposed to be first amongst about 10 people waiting outside to get in (i really apologize for making this so long, im just writing as it spills out my head!). xiu xiu was about to start. it's at this point the venue owner, in a move i will love him forever for, lets everyone outside in and boards up all the windows so passerbys can't see that the place is packed to the brim (and um, not exactly in coordinance with local fire code). it was hot, it was sweaty, but it was wonderful. i was behind quite a few people so the only times i got a really good look at jamie and caralee was when they walked by with their equipment, but nevertheless i could hear the lovely sounds they were making. ive heard numerous stories of fans reacting negatively to xiu xiu's music but it seemed the entire crowd there were there to see them and everyone seemed to love it. i tried to keep track of what they played and the setlist, to the best of my ability, is posted below. hopefully the warm (or rather, hot, as anyone inside could attest to) response xiu xiu received from their visit to the 'lou will prompt many returns! or better yet, make a stop at columbia (MO), as that's where i, as well as many of the kids at the show, live during the fall/winter.
anyways, if jamie or caralee ever get to read this, thank you so much for playing here. i love you, the city loves you, the man whose venue you sold out probably loves you.
setlist: (probably not in order but close!)
1. new song (the 'shut up shut up' one mentioned in the new material thread)
2. crank heart
3. new song (the other one mentioned, in some parts sounded almost influenced by the beach boys and reminiscent of an 80's song i really wish i could remember)
4. clowne towne
5. jennifer lopez
6. apistat commander
7. poe poe (i'd been listening to their live performance of this from the spain vids all week, so very glad they played it)
8. i broke up
9. fabulous muscles
10. i luv the valley
now that i think about it, and moreso am informed of the fact, i think they also played 20,000 deaths... somewhere in there, towards the middle i think.
