I'm sure you people have always wanted a thread where you can ask Owen anything well now it exists so ask away! If he doesn't respond your question probably sucked.
My Question
Q: If you had to commit to speedrunning videogames professionally which game would you choose to attempt World Record at and why?

Q: When you dropped the Final Fantasy moniker did it change the way you view your own music? Do you regret not choosing a new moniker or stand by the decision to release music as Owen Pallett?

Q: If you were limited to wearing 2 colors for the rest of your life (black and white still allowed, various hues of the colours you pick allowed) which 2 colors would you choose and why?

What is your favorite plugin currently? Mine is Brainworx bx_oberhausen (Oberheim emulation) I've been getting some gorgeous pads out of it.

Does being a homosexual cancel out your white guilt or exacerbate it?

Sure, I'll bite. mhmm I've for a while felt like I want to establish a bit of a boundary, here, I find your online demeanour to be a bit off-putting? But: I admit that it's more likely a response to "I've been stalked by creeps, in the past" than anything to do with you specifically. Ease up a little though, OK?
Tetris, it's the game I'm best at. When my self-esteem is in the pits I log into Tetris 99 and murder a bunch of Japanese grade-schoolers.
Having established my solo project under the original name, and then having to change it so abruptly, it created a dilution of third-party interest and some general confusion. I would prefer to have had a New Name for the project so as to distinguish it from, say, my soundtrack work and my chamber music-- as well as keeping authorial distance from when things get meta-narrative-y, but we had to make the decision only six weeks prior to Heartland's release, so we just went with the most viable option. I did think that I'd like to rename the project "Sky Lord" but I didn't in my heart think it was actually a good name.
When the Raps are winning I tune in, and Van Vliet is my favourite because I think he is attractive and I would like for him one day to ask me out on a date.
Black, white, grey and purple.
Juice is something I used to swig from the carton when I had a hangover, but I don't drink alcohol much any more, so I have no need for it. My favourite juice is guava.
No, but I'll look it up tonight.
I don't use many plugins beyond the factory ones that come with Logic. I have an outboard spring reverb, a Z-Vex Lo-Fi Junky and that's it. I do enjoy Vintage Warmer, though not as much these days, and for synthesis I enjoy Aalto, though I haven't been using it recently and haven't actually used it on any recording.
I don't experience white guilt, at least, not very often. White fragility, definitely, sometimes. My attitude toward discussions surrounding privilege and intersectionality is specific. I believe that self-reflection, acknowledgement of the ways that society has favoured you unjustly, and to allow the ways that one has been favoured to dilute and be corrected, and work at feeling comfortable with this societal shift, and a lessening of the privileges that society has offered you-- these are constructive activities. Getting older kind of makes this stuff feel a little more inevitable-- year to year, my mind and body function less-well, and I feel myself becoming more and more societally invisible-- it's important to feel comfortable with this shift or you'll be depressed all the time.
There are white gay men in the world who lean into their LGBTQ status to emphasize their own status as "an oppressed body", and historically, we have been. That said, I think white gay/queer men, in 2020, are far more defined as a body by their white privilege and male privilege than they are by any oppression as a result of gayness/queerness. Furthermore, I find that "homosexual men" tend to conceal harmful "masculine" behaviour behind their sexuality-- I think of violence I've witnessed in drag-centred environments, I think of violence and aggression I've witnessed in gay clubs, and I think of a widespread habit of "using sex to assert power over others". These are behaviours that I associate largely with Men and Male Behaviours, and I think it's important for gay men as a body to remember that they are still men, (even if they're affecting "feminine" language and tropes), and masculine behaviour is oftentimes in need of being unpacked and corrected.
I have adopted gender-neutral pronouns to best reflect my current gender state, but I feel no desire to demand of those around me that they honour my pronouns, or use my gender neutrality for discursive leverage-- I'm still, functionally, a white gay man, and highly privileged as a result, and still working to audit the ways that masculinity colours my judgement.

Kind of. I like having little threads in naming conventions... "This Is...", "What Do You Think...", "Lewis..." There aren't really any hidden secret connections between the songs that share these conventions, I just think it's a nice device.

Wow wasn't expecting a reply thanks for the great answers (i secretly knew you would take the bait). I am way too lazy to stalk people or care about anything but I'll leave you alone if that's what you want. My online personality is the worst no question.

FVV is a dreamboat great pick. Never would have guessed grey and purple.
Your perspective on white fragility and masculinity is helpful to me thanks. I'm finding modern life to be difficult to navigate currently I know I should feel worse about a lot of things but I seemingly can't I like being happy and making light of bad situations.
