Hi everyone! I was wondering if people had any favorite covers of Owen's music- either songs covered by him, or songs of his that are covered by others. I've been really into this piano cover of Chronicles of Sarnia by Leon Taheny recently (it's gorgeous) which got me thinking. It's a little hard to find cover's of Owen's songs by others so if anyone knows any good ones I'm all ears. On the other hand, my favorite covers by him are probably Sweet Fantasy by Mariah Carey (it's just so fun and upbeat!) and Pretty Good Year by Tori Amos. And obviously Peach Plum Pear by Joanna Newsom. When he covers female singers, he somehow keeps the feminine energy from the original... I can't explain it, but I love it! Are there any songs you'd like to see Owen cover? I'd die for a cover of Paris by Geographer- I think the existing structure of the song would lend itself really nicely to loop pedals, and there's already strings and synth in there. The vocals seem pretty close in range too. I'm just being self indulgent though, it's one of my favorite songs I can dream! (PS. Happy early new year! and thank you to Alpentine for having a lot of this information archived. it hasn't been updated in a long time but it's one of the most useful websites ever.)

Peach Plum Pear is a classic! I love Plays to Please (particularly Horsetail Feathers), but in terms of live covers, I get a huge kick out of this video. Owen covers An Actor's Revenge by Destroyer, and then Dan Bejar and Roland Pemberton show up immediately after and the three do the song again together. It's hilarious and looks like a lot of fun.

I LOVE THIS VIDEO. Everyone just seems to be having such a genuinely good time shouting the song when everyone comes on stage! And the novelty of the original artist joining in on the fun too. Thanks for sharing!

Not strictly cover related: about five years ago, Owen released this version of Secret Seven: soundcloud.com/owen-pallett/the-secret-seven-versionHave any of the other songbook versions of In Conflict been recorded? Is there a chance they might be recorded and released? Dying to hear them.

Wow, I haven't heard these either! Palm Desert sounds very Spectrum-y.

Wow, I haven't heard these either! Palm Desert sounds very Spectrum-y. Yeah, very much so! It also sounds like it could be straight off of "Plays to Please". Finding a cover I haven't heard (with a full orchestra backing too) was quite a treat!

[casually hops in the thread to share some more covers I haven't seen discussed here] Have you guys seen his covers of Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark's Dazzle Ships? Genetic Engineering (starting 1:20 or so) is so awesome. Also this cover of I Want to be Well! I think of these specifically because they don't really come up in search results unless you're specifically looking for them. Man, I also COMPLETELY forgot until just now about this video of him singing Beirut's Cliquot acoustically--- which used to be one of my favorite things, like, in existence. (I was also a kid in 2008, but that doesn't belittle it! ) Finally, it's not from the same genre of "kinda hard to find on Youtube", but my personal favorite Owen cover is Hard to Explain. The lower strings on the first chorus, man, they're good.

And OMG... that acoustic cover of Cliquot is awesome! I swear once a month I listen to nothing but Cliquot on repeat for a few days straight (it's one of my favorite songs), but I somehow have not heard this version before. Thank you for sharing!
