in all honesty, i can't tell you jack about the opening bands. my crew and i was too busy drinking out on the patio and shit. they seemed to be pretty boring. the first band was kinda...i dunno, it was like slint and some jazzy stuff with it. not that interesting. the supporting band was more of an atmospherics type thing, which i would much rather just listen to anyways, not necessarily see live. it sounded great, though, but those types of things are VERY boring live. i'm glad i didn't go inside becuase i got to talk to jamie stewart while i was outside, so that was cool. xiu xiu, of course, was awesome. i have a bunch of pictures. i just have to upload them to the web. i'll post a link when i do that so you can get some sort of idea as to how it was.

i disagree about the supporting act (magicicada). they were doing some pretty interesting things all in a live context. harp + some weird electronic doodads, bells, vocals, some sort of plate with spokes on it that was played with a bow and other stuff. it was pretty far from the typical laptop show.
i didnt see the first band at all.
xiu xiu was really incredible of course!

each to his own-i suppose. i found it intriguing... and i didnt see a single laptop on the stage. they were playing it all live. in my mind things do not get much more 'live' than actual instruments being played for the performance.
