Is it worth driving two hours to see Xiu Xiu live? I'm only asking because I've heard mixed things and since I'm already going to a few shows the week of Xiu Xiu's, I'll have to do a lot of begging to get to go.
Also, does anyone know how much the show at the Talking Head in Baltimore on 3/23 costs?

It is so very much worth it to go! I've seen them three times over the past three or so years and each time they are phenomenal. I love the Xiu Xiu CD's, but to see them live...wow. It's a whole new experience in emotional catharsis.

the talking head show is probably $6. i think that's how much the animal collective show i attended there last year cost.

I have never seen anything as intense and beautiful on stage as seeing jamie stewart play live. It surpasses words. It was ... no really I can't explain it. there were people crying and breaking down in the small room I was in and after every song dead silence, it felt like driving fingers down chalk boards to break it (or for me...squeezing cotton balls...or walking on crunchy snow...anyone else get that?) I just sat in a daized stuper with a stupid dumfounded grin a mile wide on my face. The emotional level was something I had NEVER seen before, absolutely stunning.
I would drive for hours to see them play live again.

I'm going to try to find a way to go. It'll probably be pretty tough though ... We'll see.
And the sound of crunching snow drives me crazy.
And apples being sliced. *shudders*

I saw Xiu Xiu in Iowa City last night and they were top shelf. Twas spellbinding I tell you. The only problem was the front half of the crowd adored xiu xiu while the other half consisted of fake indee college students who felt they had to see every band that pitchfork gave a good review of. They talked through the whole show, and it was annoying as fuck. One guy in the crowd yelled "Gay pride"! That upset me. At one point in the concert Jamie got fed up with the nonsense and flipped of one of the pricks in the crowd. All of this aside, seeing xiu xiu is amazing. So go to the concert. Stand close to a P.A. so the assholes in the crowd don't ruin your experience.

It was Jamie and Caralee McElroy. They had 4 or 5 smal amps. Two harmoniums and one Synthesizer. A rack of bell cymbals a triangle, and drum machine. Jamie played guitar in most of the songs. Harmonium in the others. Sounded great. All songs played were from Knife play and Fabulous Muscles. The show was brilliant. I encourage everyone to go if Xiu Xiu comes anywhere near you you.

Yeah, saw Xiu Xiu last night in Minneapolis; great show, felt a bit short, though. No songs from "A Promise" (which is fine by me.) About an even share from "Knife Play" and "Fab. Musc" plus "Rose of Sharon" and "Helsabot," which was sung by Caralee. The audience was very, very nice. No hecklers, very attentive.
