Having not yet heard Fabulous Muscles, I'd have to recommend A Promise to start with. "Sad Pony Guerrilla Girl" and "Apistat Commander" made a great first impression on me, and later tracks like "Fast Car", "Brooklyn Dodgers", "Blacks", and "Ian Curtis Wishlist" are just as good.
Definitely don't start with the Chapel Of The Chimes EP. It's probably the noisiest (and therefore most obtuse) of their releases. If you're cheap, the Insound Tour Support #26 Split EP w/ Jim Yoshii Pile Up is a good deal. Only 6 or 7 bucks from Insound or Absolutely Kosher.

not by a long shot. perhaps, by chance, do you post on the official site's board? i'm from england so it's hard for me to find out good underground american bands, the internet helps though... www.epitonic.com is a good site, and no i don't post on the interpol board, is there someone called olly there too?
