i just downloaded a couple of xiu xiu tracks and i really love them, i don't know which album to buy or anything though... could anyone tell me which is their best/best to start with? also what other bands are like this? because i am totally in love with this band now, they are so cute, someone told me to check out drive like jehu too... are they good? thanks.

oh yah.. also check out frog eyes.. they opened for xiu xiu in victoria a few years back and they put on a fantastic display of desperation and mystic anxiety

yeah knife play is my favorite record as well. but for starters i would go with fabulous muscles. alot catchier and easier to listen too for a first timer.

i would also start with "knife play". yes, "fabulous muscles" is more accessible, but if you're already starting to fall in love, start at the beginning. that way, you'll get to watch the band grow on each album as the rest of us have. plus, "i broke up (sj)" is still probably the most famous/controversial/quintessential xiu xiu song. of course, that's only my opinion

when i inform people that i love xiu xiu, i don't know how many times people have yelled/referred to the "worst vacation ever" line and then proceeded to expound on how obnoxious they are i draw people in with the calming but building tension in Sad Pony, play them Apistat, Fast Car, Sad Redux, and then ICW. by that point, they want more and have gotten used to Jamie and even enjoy the simplicity of Ian Curtis Wishlist. They listen to all of A Promise, and then want Knife Play and they enjoy it and appreciate the beautiful but painful outbursts more than if they would have had heard Knife Play first. |

yeah, a promise is a good place to start, get familiar with it. and then knife play is just the straight bomb after that.

my favorite cd is a promise.. but if ur just starting to get into them start with knife play.

i'm going to order them all and listen to them first to last, i can't believe i've never heard of them up until now, joy division is one of my all time fave bands and up until now the closest good thing has been interpol, thanks for all your kind responses people.

I have all the albums and Knife Play would be the one I would choose. It as the first one to make me love Xiu Xiu.
