Why the name Fag Patrol and a nude guy on the cover of an album. Are any of the members of Xiu Xiu gay? Forgive me for my ignorance.

well, i've always assumed jamie was gay. here are a few notable reasons: 1: he sings about his "leather daddy" on "a promise" 2: he got a blow job on stage from a drag queen during a performance 3: the naked guy on the cover of _a promise_ was picked up in the hanoi gay cruising area, and it seemed like he was saying he was cruising himself in the pitchfork interview 4: one of the shows he performed during the recent tour had something to do with cum on his lips 5: one of the t-shirts available at the show has a pornographic image of a man jerking off i'm sure i could list a bunch more, but those are blatant and just sprung to mind. as to the title "fag patrol", i really like it. the term "fag" seems to be used by gay men in similar ways that black people use the word "nigger" and women use the term "cunt". taking a derogatory term and embracing it as your own, thereby weakening the strength previously attributed to the word. since the album was mostly jamie, as the quiet acoustic sets allow us to hear more of him and less of the other members, i felt it was an appropriate title... but i'll shut up now and let someone else talk

In Jamie Stewarts interview with Brave New Waves he explains the meaning behind Ian Curtis Wish List. He says that at a party he hooked up with a GIRL (the Jane S. in the song) and that he became obsessed with her and then that things didn't work out and he felt that things in his life would never work out. Seems like a straight man to me. Also, don't always take the Xiu Xiu songs as a autobiography from Jamie Stewart, some of them are written from the view point of someone else (a good obvious example of this is Suha). Does his sexual preference really matter anyways?

the last person who signed this talked about the Brave New Waves radio interview, jamie was also asked what singers have influenced him and he said: "morrisey, duh!" morrissey's songs have many sexual undertones to them and many of them have homosexual undertones. i mean that could be an influence on his writing. morrissey was constantly asked about his sexuality and he said, " i refuse to recognize the terms hetero-, bi-, and homo-sexual. Everybody has exactly the same sexual needs. People are just sexual, the prefix is immaterial".

Well, this doesn't come from the lad himself but someone who knows Jamie (and posts here once in awhile) and apparently Jamie likes boys and girls. How inclusive. Of course it doesn't really matter... but you know...

I got it in the mail today...absolutely kosher didn't take too awfully long. Anyway, I really dig it. I agree with the previous statements that it is for fans, but awesome nonetheless.

ok, my classification of him as "gay" was too hasty. i think i only did that because i myself am gay, so i associated with that specific aspect of his music. but thank you for pointing out what i was missing. of course, one of the things that i do love about this music is the fact that the narrator is constantly changing and by no means should be considered the speaker's story. i stand corrected and you're right; the band member's sexualities are not exactly important to appreciate the music of the band, but sometimes it's nice to find a person who you admire who also happens to be of the same persuasion as yourself. and of course, as i've stated before, jamie is actually pretty hot in real life. it's always nice to assume that the ones you find attractive are at least of the appropriate sexuality although now that i think about it, this does bring up an interesting question: why the name "fag patrol"? does he consider any male who is -ambisexual/bisexual/whatever you want to call it- a "fag"?

There are groups of gay men & women that roam the streets near and around known homosexual hang-outs making sure there aren't any fag-bashers or trouble in general. They are known as fag patrols. I believe there are a number of prominent patrols like this in the San Fran. area.

Does his sexual preference really matter anyways? No, it dosen't, I was just wondering because I read about Xiu Xiu on shzine.com and when I listened to a few songs it blew my mind. Just trying to learn more about them.

No nevermind... At least they're not La Rouche people. Those people follow you home.
