www.absolutelykosher.com/merchandise.htmlWHAT, A NEW NEW XIU XIU CD? Yep, you've got that right. It's called Fag Patrol and it consists of all acoustic performances of six songs culled from the band's two albums and Chapel of the Chimes CDEP along with two new songs and a Smiths cover. The CD comes in beautiful hand-made packaging courtesy of the Free Porcupine Society label and is limited to 1000 copies. Official release date is May 27, though we have a few copies now and expect more to come soon. First come, first served. Also in stock and extremely limited is the vinyl version of Xiu Xiu's A Promise, brought to us by the Collective Jyrk label. This features a black and white uncensored version of the CD cover (yes, you can see the guys' penis) and is limited to 200 copies. COMING SOON Xiu Xiu / The Dead Science - "Fabulous Muscles" b/w "Hiroshima Love Song" split 7" Can you believe that after six years of releasing records, we're now deciding to do our first 7"? Why not? Think September.

i guess i could put this under a new post, but i figured i might as well keep the advertising going for the band...
has anyone listened yet? any opinions?
here's a few comments about my listening:
helsabot: wow. this is incredible, and i can't wait to hear the studio recording (i finally sent off payment for the ten in the swear jar stuff the other day)
jennifer lopez: i've never given enough time to the ep, as i've been partial to knife play since i heard it 6 months ago. but this made me go back and relisten to chapel of the chimes. and while i think the version on the ep is really impressive, the version of jennifer lopez on fag patrol is far superior and is worth buying the cd alone. this is a really impressive track; it reminds me of the emotional intensity of "i broke up" on knife play.
i broke up: this is the song that made me first fall for xiu xiu, so i'll always have a special place in my heart for this song. this version is very personal, which i like, but i miss the jarring moments that are so stunning in the studio cut. the emotions are just as raw here, but the juxtapositions between brilliant pop melody and discordant noise will always make the knife play version the quintessential xiu xiu song...
any more opinions?

well gentree, what'd ya think of "helsabot"? it's probably my second favorite track on the disc, and i finally heard the original. of course, i like the quiet one a little more, perhaps because i heard it first, but i really like the studio cut as well...

I got mine about four business days after I ordered it, but I paid the extra $2.50 for shipping. If you didn't do that, it could take awhile.
