Stu only says this because he's personally offended by this thread. There was a time when he was the most fashionable of fashion punkers. I think this is the point where I'm supposed to say (in token hardcore fashion) "OH SNAP!" I've thought about it a lot myself, as well. And so have many others. It seems almost an inescapable inevitablity that there will always be superficiality within any group or movement, but that's not the point, I don't think. I for one, largely agree with the initial post and with a lot of the ones after, for the most part. I've always been turned off of the "punkest" of them all because of the sheer irrationality of their outlook on life and many other things. I could see the way these kind of kids would get treated, and sure, they were "punks" in the truest sense, and had been around in the scene years logner than I had, but I could still see that the majority of those who associated with them were for mainly in it for themselves. These same kids always seemed to (sub?)consciously insist on perpetuating a stereotype they felt partial to. It seems so relevant and universal to so many things, but as I'm sitting here listening to Minor Threat and typing this, as always, I'm convinced that in many ways hardcore succeeded where punk failed. Of course, it can easily go the other way and it be known that perhaps it failed just as many times as it succeeded, but the point still remains. I think the biggest reason why this "problem" (if you will) exists is people's unwillingness to see all of this for more than it's surface value and appearance. Not to mention, how often do you have any of them willing to seriously discuss a topic like this and take any of it into consideration? I am who I am partially because I just see it as a matter of reason and justification, not simply "because I can" or "because that's what I like". Sometimes the biggest challenge is breaking free and thinking for yourself... And even though despite what they say and that it's only a small piece of the puzzle, isn't that what most will claim punk is entirely based on?

*raises hand*
I care about hardcore, and I'm sure there's a lot of other people who could agree. I can think of at least one other on this board, in fact.
Hardcore is entertaining, but music isn't entirely about "entertainment" and an escapist approach. If you're only into music for "entertainment value", I'd stick to the top 40 charts.

i find hardcore to be a bit rediculous sometimes. suburban high school kids getting money from their parents to go the rec center so they can watch other suburban kids pretend they're children of the devil. most people are dorks and act too over the top...
where's the rock and rolllll?
