im pretty bored today at work and had a lot of time to think. it seemed to me that there was a certain 'more punk than you' attitude in the punk scene that most other scenes don't have. not to say that cowboys or whatever are trying to be punkers, but like constantly comparing ourselves to others sharing our scene. it just seems like those of us who call ourselves punk are very careful to stay inside certain lines. and those who are convinced that they are infact punk rock are constantly judging others on whether they are punk or not. then we get all jittery because we know that we're punk but the other punks dont think we are. So we go and buy leather jackets, 2 or 3 studded belts to wear at the same time, bondage pants, patches of bands we've only ever heard of and politcal slogans we don't fully understand, a couple of chucks, and a long board. there, now no one will EVER question whether you're punk or not. today the whole fashion with punk thing is just boggling my mind. tommorow i probably wont care. i'll see this post and have half a mind to delete it. right now though i just cant see to much of a similarity in any other scene. i think punk just may have died. fashion punk reigns now. agree? disagree? opinions?

On a lesser scale, it's kind of like the whole Glam-Rock deal of the 80's and such.

yah. I'm thinking that punk was always about fashion...although now more so than ever. It should be based on a state of mind, but I suppose that because one can't tell what another is thinking just by looking at them, they dress a certain way.
Because a certain way of dressing has been associated with a particular way of thinking, it pisses a lot of people off to see some 12 year old chick wearing bondage pants and spikes when all she has on her mind are butterflies and boys. I guess that the style is going to have to play less of a role in "punk" than it used to so that people can decipher the true scenesters from the faux....ha, I just wrote faux

haha. punks fucking suck. why do they advertise so much? i fucking love punk, but give me a fucking break. it has nothing to do with buying a leather jacket, patches, boots, or any of that shit. fuck i wear denim jeans. maybe i can start a punk rock denim fad. sure i have a few patches and the such, but i dont wake up everyone morning and put on my punk suit.

yeah. personally, i think we need to bring back kegs, if they were ever in, and if they werent, we'll make em a style. who wants a sixpack when they can have a keg? i mean really. nothing is sexier on a man than a round, portly beer belly.

i remember gathering around papa mcbeer, and hearing wonderful stories of them dancing around a keg in a shopping cart all the way from comox to the house.

what's punk? fuck off who cares there. Stu only says this because he's personally offended by this thread. There was a time when he was the most fashionable of fashion punkers.
