i just finished heart of darkness and it was one of the most profound books i have ever come across. has anyone else read this? here is a general question for the lot of you; do you believe that life is suffering? what do you think of the idea that the meaning of life is only found in the anticipation of finding the meaning of life? in other words the only purpose in all our curiousity is in curiousity itself.

what if we never find the meaning of life. perhaps we're just not meant to know. without knowing for sure, i have no choice but to have my own 'meaning of life' that fits in with the things I've come to believe about this world, and that's going to be different for everybody.
suffering is a part of life, as is joy.

my belief is that humanity necessitates evil and suffering. without suffering there is no character or depth to a person so asking for perfection (on a grand scale) in turn, asks for zombification. this is why christianity's heaven disturbs me. we will be cleansed white as snow, innocent. will xianity's heaven strip us of our humanity?

yes, life is suffering. what is life without struggle? we learn through suffering - we need suffering to continually remind us how life, and the human condition, is vulnerable and fragile..

this may sound totally lame, but when i die, i hope i turn into the star-child from 2001:A space oddysey. if only i could find a way to rationalize actually believing that this in going to happen, then i could at least be happy in this life
