THE FIRESIDE BOWL [glow=red,2,300]RULES[/glow] to the person said it sucks. It's most intimate venue in Chicago, which is ideal for Xiu Xiu.

THE FIRESIDE BOWL [glow=red,2,300]RULES[/glow] to the person said it sucks. It's most intimate venue in Chicago, which is ideal for Xiu Xiu. I'm the one who said THE FIRESIDE BOWL sucks. And it does. Seeing a band there is like watching a gig down a long, narrow, crowded hallway. If you're not within the first several feet of the stage, you're totally fucked. There is no stage lighting, the acoustics are wretched, and the air circulation is nonexistant. The building is literally falling apart. There are many more venues in Chicago that Xiu Xiu could play at (Bottom Lounge, Empty Bottle, Schuba's, Subterranean, etc.) that are just as "intimate" and much more suitable for a live performance. Fireside is a great place for all the kids to come and mosh to really, really bad punk bands. It is not suitable for complex and understated bands like Xiu Xiu. I talked to Jamie afterwards and asked him why he insists on playing the Fireside. His response was that it's an all ages venue and that the people who run it are nice. Those are two perfectly valid reasons to want to play there. However, by doing so, Jamie is robbing much of his audience of a much more meaningful, impactful experience. Their music and performance deserves better. I very much hope Jamie reads this and seriously reconsiders his venue choices in Chicago the next time he tours. All that being said, those are some great pictures. Thanks so much for sharing them.
