the group who filmed a live xiu xiu show will be releasing a dvd of the show sometime in the near future. they have stated that it will be a dvd-r unless they have enough responses, in which case, they might be able to make a dvd. which would you prefer? please, only vote once. also, below you will find an explanation from the manufacturer about the difference between dvds and dvd-rs in both quality and price.

Well, there are two real differences worth mentioning: 1) Longevity (click for reference article) 2) Compatibility (click for reference article) The compatibility issue has almost become a moot point, since just about any DVD player manufactured in the last two to three years will definitely be able to play the DVD-R's we're planning to produce. So far, I have not personally found a DVD player that will not play the other DVD-R videos we've done. As for longevity: The minimum expected longevity of a DVD is 25 years and for a DVD-R it's 20. If your Xiu Xiu DVD-R happens to disintegrate after that period of time, we'll be happy to provide you with a replacement. (Seriously...if you want it that bad, and we're all still alive, we'll take care of you!) Note: there is no difference in video/audio quality between these two types of media. There's also, obviously a cost factor. We've been planning to keep the price of this DVD-R at $12 or below. Whereas for a small run of pressed DVD's, we couldn't possible go below $18 and that's a bit high for most people. Dr. Strangelove, if you'd like to adjust the poll with the cost details, we'll be open to everyone's opinions. I hope this helps to clarify some things! Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks! -evan

If the entire DVD is filmed like that live promo video posted before, I will definitely buy one for whatever price.

The whole show was captured the same as the "crank heart" video. We are going to spend the week and next exclusively on the xiu xiu footage. Then the dvd-r or whatever format we decide will come soon after....Thanks to everyone! --Julie
