I don't know anything about the background of this song but would have to say the guys who said Deerhoof are right, based soley on the band's strong relationship with them.

/me looks. yes, greg saunier is there, but there is also a ches smith and a certain kurt stumbaugh. though i always thought the erratic and beautiful drumming in that song could only come from saunier. going a little off-topic, does anyone know jamie's lyrical intentions with this song? i've found that i can interpret it in many ways and don't know what exactly he was trying to convey. well, regardless of who drummed the song, it's brilliant.

i made this exact same thread a while back but can't find it (dont think the server keeps threads that long) so i'll try my best to relate to you what i was told:
it's the drummer from deerhoof, as has been established. jamie does not have HIV/AIDS - rather, he used to work at an HIV/AIDS clinic in California and at this clinic built a friendship with one of the patients who, while he was working at the clinic (i think), died as a result of his having AIDS. the song is about this person and jamies experience at the clinic.

There are two drummers playing simultaneously on this track: Greg Saunier and Ches Smith. They recorded it live in the same room with Jamie playing bass.
