Do you ever think that one day xiu xiu will be really, really popular? And then bastards like us will complain that we were there at the beginning before all this hype about xiu xiu. I think they'll make it on a much more broader level than what they are at now. They're music is too good. And honestly, every band I've really liked that has started small has always become well-known. i have no doubt that xiu xiu will as well.

on the local music website im starting to see xiu xiu pop up on a decent number of people's "music i listen to" thing (decent number within the realm of people that would listen to such music around here) which i think is pretty cool. a lot are just indiefucks who saw the pitchfork review of Fabulous Muscles or heard about it from a friend who read said review, but a few are a bit more surprising, people who found out about xiu xiu.. well probably from the same sort of sources, but who have formed connections with the music similar to mine and have delved further into the world of xiu xiu and picked up earlier releases..

i don't know. it's hard to say. i kinda opened my mouth about xiu xiu a lot and now i'm paying for it.
i like it when other people start listening to the music i listen to, etc. and spreading their music is awesome. but.. i don't know. some people, you just know that they don't really like it. at least not like you like it. i have to admit, i am kind of annoyed how some people are catching on saying "omfg xiu xiu roxja!!11" but whatever.

Well, I'm a xiu xiu fan who likes Neutral Milk Hotel, Björk, Radiohead and the Pixies (more but you know, no point of posting it all here) and yeah I did hear of xiu xiu from pitchfork, but back in the A Promise days, and since then I've ordered CDs, and all this (living in australia as I do)... so does that make me an indie fuck? I'm curious, what do you consider as a 'real' Xiu Xiu fan, and why's it so important?

Well, I'm coming from the angle of old industrial, death rock and no-wave stuff, and I discovered Xiu Xiu on amazon.com because I was searching aimlessly for something new. Ordered both Knife Play and A Promise from 5RC, and I've never heard of any of the other stuff on that label. I now own all of the Xiu Xiu releases and even got that Ten In The Swear Jar CD because I really dig hearing prototype versions of songs that I like.
I'll be anal and post a current playlist: ----------------------------------------------- Patrick Wolf - Lycanthropy Dresden Dolls - s/t Swans - Filth/Body To Body, Job To Job Death In June - Nada! Xiu Xiu - Fabulous Muscles and Chapel of the Chimes SPK - Auto Da Fe

welcome to the board! you are not alone. i love death in june. i even have nada! and brown book on picture discs. i haven't heard many people mention any world serpent lately actually, other than current 93 (thanks to pitchfork). it's nice to know i'm not the only xiu xiu fan who still listens to old death rock,no wave & "appocalyptic folk", etc. :-) *breaks out the virgin prunes vinyl to celebrate*

I've never even heard of Pitchfork Media until I started listening to Xiu Xiu.
I can definitely hear a small tad of Throbbing Gristleness in Xiu Xiu, and maybe it's just me, but when I think of the usual "noise pop" I've never quite heard much "noise" in any of it until Xiu Xiu came along (re: Dr. Troll, Mike, etc.). Maybe I haven't been listening to the right stuff. Of course Throbbing Gristle was speaking of the ills of the hypercapitalist world, and Xiu Xiu speaks of the dysfunctional warping horror that takes place in a broken social/family life etc. but that black humor present in both is what makes the ties even firmer in my mind.
Jennifer Lopez (The Sweet Science Version) actually reminds me of the first Shub Niggurath album, Les Morts Vont Vite. Excellent French Zeuhl-ish prog from the mid-80's if you're curious.
I wish that Death In June would re-release The Guilty Have No Pride/Past and Burial plus the rest of the stuff from the pre-Nada! era. The Nada! and Brown Book reissues are great; they both have nice bonus tracks on them.
The grey areas are usually marked with yellow ink.

I will be happy for Xiu Xiu if they become more well known. It is a bit juvenile to worry about a band you "discovered" becoming popular. Maybe it is because I am a bit older but this is the sort of thing that high school students dramatize about. Or maybe it is what pretentious scenesters talk about, I don't know. Good music speads and picks up a broad fan base. It is sort of funny and sad to hear people wish that others weren't into Xiu Xiu because these other people are "feeling" the music the same as they are. Give me a break.
