Good choices all around.
But Xiu Xiu needs to cover Anne Murray. "Danny's Song" is the greatest song ever written. (It's by Kenny Rogers.)
You know the one?
"Even though we ain't got money I'm so in love with you honey Everything will bring a chain of looooooooove In the morning when I rise You bring a tear of joy to my eyes And tell me everything's gonna be all right."
I'm obsessed with that song.

or "Today" by Smashing Pumpkins, becos "Today is the greatest day" does NOT fit with what Jamie would sing... um, that song is actually meant to be sarcastic. in fact, basically all of siamese dream is about billy's considering suicide. in that respect, i do think it would be a fitting cover.

ok, one more suggestion... even though tori amos already covered it, what about "tell me why (i don't like mondays)" by the boomtown rats... i adore that song, and it's pretty disturbing, despite the simple, poppy structure

"Vincent" by, believe it or not, Don McLean (the same guy who brought us the all american classic "American Pie"). Cheesy as hell, but one of the saddest songs that ever was a 'hit'. "The Ballad of El Goodo" by Big Star, just to balance the equation with some hope, albeit dark hope.

They played this song once at a show along with a cover of "Please, please, please let me get what I want" by the smiths.

Death in June - Fall Apart
But I have a hard time finding bands that would be Xiu Xiu-compatible.

Death in June - Fall Apart interesting idea... actually, anything on the world serpent label could be interesting... perhaps "crowleymass" by current 93, or "runes and men" by DiJ, or even something from tiny tim
