I bought Xiu Xix - A promise having only read an interveiw of Jamie (plus it was used so i thought ok I saved a bit of money if it sucked). I put it on in the car going home. My friend and I were just like "woah, what the fuck! THIS IS AMAZING!" I fell in love with it and Xiu Xiu is now one of my favortite bands. Since then Ive played it for most of my good friends. All have enjoyed it but none seem to realy get into it. I think a lot of the songs you have to be in the right mood for. But then theres song like poe poe, suha, hives hives, and sad pony guriella girl that are just easier to listen to. But thats just my two cents...

i wasnt too keen on the xiu xiu sound at first (being a titsj and ibopa fan) but after listening to them for a while theyve grown on me. i guess its a aquired taste in fine music.

I took a close friend to the Xiu Xiu show this last weekend, I think I'd only played her "Sad Pony Guerrilla Girl" prior...for almost the entirety of Jamie's set (which was in a small venue, all of us sitting on the floor in this warehouse, no stage) her head was in her hands. Afterwards she said that she was trying not to cry the whole time, and now she's an admirer as well.
Xiu Xiu may not be for everyone, but for those in touch with their emotional self Jamie's songs will resonate.

i heard xiu xiu for the first time ever live tonight and i was blown away. It was basically a spiritual expierence. I went with two friends and was surprissed to meet others there as well and none of them liked it at all. This makes absolutely no sense to me at all. maybe there is some truth to the whole bjork comparisson though?! whatever.

someone earlier mentioned how it helps being in the mood for a lot of the songs, i definitely agree with that. xiu xiu isn't something you throw on for your friends while youre waiting for the football game to start (or whatever) it helps if theres a good vibe going on.

I disagree. I got into Xiu Xiu by listening when I was really depressed. I could really relate to everything in the music. Luckily, it isn't the type of depressing music which you'd rather throw away when you're in a good mood. It's all around great stuff to listen to.
I still hate "Don Diasco", but that's just me. I think it's one of their worst songs. I started out on "I Broke Up".

I've played a lot of xiu xiu music to my mother and she loves it. Clowne Towne and fast car are her favourite tracks. So there's hope for the world yet. She's almost 60 and Joy Division are her top band at the moment.

I fear xiu xiu would get the same reaction out of my mom that Swans did back in highschool. She overreacts.
But I did get my ex-girlfriend to like it, by asking her to sing Sad Pony Guerilla Girl to me. I'm not sure she digs on the rest of the stuff, but it's progressing.
Whenever Xiuxiu makes it on a mix cd for someone I'm sure has never heard it, "Poe poe" is inevitably what i choose. Sometimes "Dr. Troll". "Apistat Commander" too. Ah.
