ok, so lately i've found that i have to listen to xiu xiu alone. while a few friends have shown some interest/appreciation, i have a number of friends who refer to xiu xiu when discussing what's wrong with my taste in music. they all refer to the abbrasive noises and screaming while ignoring the incredible melodies and beautiful structures... i have one friend who actually considered showing up to the show just so he could scream throughout the whole show and annoy jamie (i declined to tell him where the event was happening) because he considers this music to be so offensive... anyone else have similar experiences?

Oh my, yes.
I just brought Knife Play over to my friend Chad's house one week ago. I popped it in and he just looked at me with disgust during Don Diasco. I told him I felt the same way when I first heard Xiu Xiu but I insisted that he listen to it more to actually discern the melodies and appreciate it for what it is.
He said that there's absolutely NO reason to listen to Xiu Xiu and that it just "isn't pleasing to the ear". He then resorted to making fun of Jamie, which I quickly silenced.
I don't believe I have a single friend that would like Xiu Xiu.

OK..So here's my what i do..I like to ease xiu xiu on to people like i am easing an old man in to a bathtub....First, I play DJ at a little get together..9 our of 10 times they will be smoking the good shit...I'll start by playing some typical bullshit so they can tap their feet and bob their little heads...then, as soon as they start getting really stoned and are actually taking the time to listen to the music..BAM!>.i throw on hives hives...Pretty much everytime I've gotten positive feedback..slowly, but surely xiu xiu will invade the minds of mediocrity.......

ain't it the truth! but actually, i was a xiu xiu basher for about 30 seconds. a friend gave me Knife Play with no introduction, i was just given the CD. i heard Don Diasco and i thought "what the hell? pots and pans!?" then i gave in to Jamie's desperation and i heard the next few songs, by Hives Hives i knew i was hooked. my other friends give me weird looks and call it crap, oh well. i'm used to their cliched phrases "sophomoric," "he needs a hug"

i think 'hives hives' and 'suha' are probably the only ones you're really gonna be able to get other people to listen to.

I find that if anyone has an appreciation of bjork, they'll like xiu xiu. At some point im going to work either "sad pony guerilla girl" or "apistat commander" onto a mix tape for my parents.

The first time I heard Xiu Xiu is was like i finally found something so amazing that i had been looking for and had no hope in finding. I played it at my house once when everyone was drunk and it managed to get quite a bit of appreciation.

I didn't expect anyone to like them because they're so inaccessible, but so far just about everyone i've shown it to has dug it. My girlfriend didn't get it at first, but she digs it now. My dad, on the other hand, still does not get it.

Knife Play is amazing, but what's so abrasive about it? Maybe I've just been desensitized, but even the first time I heard it all I can make out are big, beautiful, romantic pop songs. The sounds aren't abrasive, they just aren't soothing.

i played "i broke up" and "hives hives" for a friend tonight, and after the latter, she responded by saying, "i'm not quite sure what it's about, and i've have to give it more time, but after that, i really need a cigarette. it really bothered me" and then she went on about how emotionally intense it was, and i was so happy that i finally found a friend who was as touched y this music as i was/am

when i first heard Don Diasco on a punk rock comp. album that i got for free, i was amazed. that same day i went out and played it for every friend that was within reach. out of the ten people i had listen to it, only 2 liked it.
i think the best is to introduce don diasco first, then ease into the more mellow/radiofriendly material.

I'm drunk right now, and I'm listening to "fast car" on wxyc in chapel hill. I've never heard xiu xiu before, but I'm quick with google. what's the story here? this is just one guy? I think he just wants to get laid by being the sensitive singer-songwriter. That dude stole my girlfriend, cause I'm a computer programmer instead of a poet. oh well, I'm a grumpy old man. good evening.
