I'm a christian myself. And I've thrown out a lot of christian music. does that count? The way I see it, It's all art. I think the gift of music is a God given talent. I think if someone is using their gift to their fullest, even when not glorifying the name of God, it is something, as christians and musicians, to respect, admire, worship to, be inspired by, etc...
How many of you christians are in bands with lyrics that have nothing to do with God? How many non-christians are in bands in which the lyrics are about God?
I'd say the answer to both is a large number

spider...i totally agree with you on what you said. christian music is so stupid for the most part. i think that there is a huge lack of integrity in christian music, not only in lyrical content, but in the fact that they are being os uninspired and uncreative. i think it is an insult to the Creator.

I don't know. I'v met a lot of Christian musicians who play with more passion and heart than a lot of non-christians that I'v met.
Whether you're beliefs are "correct" or not, that's always arguable. Always will be. But there has to be something to say about people playing music straight from the heart, Christian or Non.

riiiight. christian music is straight from the heart... why is it then that all i see in the lyric booklets is this repeated, surface christianity crap. it lacks vulnerability, and any real dangerous insight. if there was any kind of dangerous message in any of it, the suits (who own the christian labels) wouldn't allow a message that screwed with their target market. it's just not cost effective to make insightful, original music anymore. when i see a lack of vulnerability, i see dishonesty. and i see it in christian music everywhere.

I never said anything about record deals or economics. I'm talking about music. Stuff that working class people like you and me play/listen to.
The place where music started from. People didn't start playing music to cut a record or make loads of money. People spilling their soul through their instruments and their vocals.
Yeah, I wasn't talking about Lyric booklets, suits or their target market.

How strong can your faith be if music is hindering it? Strength is in numbers. To each their own. You obviously want opinions or you would not have posted what you did. If you get rid of ALL your music, you might as well get rid of T.V., movies and the rest of the secular world . The extremes are endless. If some of your music bothers you, thats your gig... but to cut out all music that is not Christian, then you will get very bored. Moderation is the key to balance. If you do not believe that now, you will in time.

If you get rid of ALL your music, you might as well get rid of T.V., movies and the rest of the secular world. Don't forget about any non christian person, all your non-biblical books. When you're driving down the street you'd better close your eyes if you're not passing a church. Brandon, I think that long one is one of the most insightful internet reads I've ever had, and it's so true. I'm with you on a lot of what you said, you know where I went to school.

i appreciate that stevey boy, but some of my responses to josiah, reading back were overly threatening and rageful and not entirely objective. reading some of his posts now gives me a bit of a fresher perspective and i feel sort of bad about how angry i got when he was trying to keep things more open. did you go to OCS? i have no idea if you meant there or just OT.

I agree, Brandon, that was a really great post you had. Usually I skip or at the most skim over long posts but that one was definitely worth my time. I have to say though, you need to let go of the lying thing. I agree, I really dislike it when people lie, but EVERYONE to some extent is a liar. I mean, when I am at work, people might be like, so, do you enjoy your job? And I say yes, just because I don't want to get into a conversation at the very moment, and I don't want to say bad things about my boss. It's not because I'm a huge liar. Sometimes people are simply unsure of what they think and so they try to put something in the most blank way possible, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are lying.
