I was just wondering who else on here are composers (though I'm sure there are many of you!). I'm in my third year of my bachelor's of fine arts, specializing in music composition and electroacoustics. What are your favourite instruments/ensembles to compose for? Favourite composers? I love writing for piano and strings (what a surprise), and I'm really inspired by Erik Satie and Philip Glass.

I'm also in my third and final year of my BMus in Composition. Right now I'm really itching to write a string quartet, but I already commited to a project with instruments made from recycled materials, so I have to finish that first. As for composers, lately I really like Britten, Schnittke and Stravinsky (who doesn't, really?), though in the past two weeks I've been obsessing over this piece by Maxwell Davies. Outside the classical world, for some reason I can't stop playing 70s/80s power ballads. |
