Hello all!
Owen also came to Lisbon for a great show on Monday! Happy to be seeing him on the day he released his album. The concert was really good, although the place wasn't that full, which was a terrible shame, especially considering that the day it was. To be honest, I think the show wasn't that well advertised in the press that usually covers this kind of events...That plus the two guys who I think were drunk (I later saw them trying to flirt with the girl at the entrance of the club) who asked around four times for Owen to play Odessa.
Anyhoo, other than that, I was so so happy to see the show. And I know the rest of the audience too! Behind me I could only hear "this is amazing... THIS IS AMAZING, he's so good!". Lisboners do love Owen. Sadly, I don't have the whole set list. Sorry for that.
Plus, I also had the chance to buy the limited edition double LP (joy joy!). Piece of goodness. All of it.

When I originally found out that Arcade Fire had released Saturday tickets for Earl's Court, I felt bad getting the Friday ones, because Saturday is way more convenient for me, but now I don't feel bad with my Friday tickets at all!
I'm tempted to request "THE BUTCHER!!!", but I don't think I can quite make it as enthusiastic as the guy who wanted it at Oval Space.

I've now got to get the kids out of school and off to London really smart on Friday afternoon.

I'm tempted to request "THE BUTCHER!!!", but I don't think I can quite make it as enthusiastic as the guy who wanted it at Oval Space. There'll be no more drunken screaming of out-of-date requests from me, I promise. (eg Don't Stop and PPP. I'm living in the past) But 'The Butcher' I can get behind. Could it be a 'power of three' style SHZine joint request? I read somewhere that Arcade Fire will probably be one of the last concerts at Earls Court, so it makes sense to give it an emotional and etheri-earl send off. Fill up the silence with the sound of your holy name!

Or 'This Modern Love' as it's London. But whatever b/cos I appreciate that one kicked the bucket a long time ago too. But the crowd would love it, and that cover was the first OP related thing I heard - on the Colin Murray show on BBC R1 many, many years ago. I was in the bath[/autobiography]

Earls Court is such a barn. Oh well managed to avoid the traffic chaos and ready for OP set. Ed has his IC t-shirt on and excited. .. although we've bought the merch stand .. well it feels like we did

How was the show? I get genuinely offended when people rip on Owen on Twitter, I hope he truly pulled it off well in that big(?) venue.

Show was totally amazing! We played great and the audience was awesome. It's a bit of a tall order to support Arcade Fire... I've always been against the idea of getting a lighting tech because the process-oriented nature of my show would be jar with "lights". But it's pretty clear to me that you can't do a show in that venue without lights. Remembering seeing Grizzly Bear supporting Radiohead, it was like, no matter how awesome Grizzly Bear were, they could never compete with "a dazzling light show / a hegemony armoured with a thousand-watt head / and thirty inches of echo" (that is actually the exact inspiration for that lyric) This, coupled with the curatorial nightmare of being "the alternative to Lorde", who in addition to being a great live performer with an awesome band, she's also a mainstream superstar. So it was an unscalable mountain, and we scaled it anyway

Whole evening was fantastic. Owen set although short for obvious reasons was still worth the panicked rush detouring round all the delays. Gteat set with a killer version of Riverbed at the end. Ed said bloody brilliant.
...and just when you think it will never be the same as it was 9 years ago, AF show that it can.
So here am I In the queue for another go tonight.

Thanks for the videos, Jules! It was an amazing and unforgettable night. I can't believe that Owen has the stamina to open and support for AF in the same night. I can only presume that MAGIC is the answer. I've admired Owen's vivid lyricism, especially in Heartland. Knowing the origin of that lyric is awesome. Thanks, Owen!
