Les Mouches showed me what was musically possible in one sense, and Owen Pallett showed me what was musically possible in another sense, especially Heartland.

I mean outside of seeing him live!! Y'all gotta stop making me jealous Well this probably still counts as "live" but the short unplugged post-gig set Owen did in the car park outside the Cardiff gig a couple of years ago was magical.

Okay, seeing Owen live is indeed incredible, but here's one for you, not-live--
When my husband finished his requirements for the master's program we were in, meaning we had both officially done our time, he put "Lewis Takes Off His Shirt" on the playlist for a party that night, and we danced and sang to it in somebody's backyard. The program had been kind of soul-killing, and shouting "I'm never gonna give it to you" was just really freeing. Gave me new courage. It still does. :)

Cardiff in the car park was great, but for me it was the first time I ever heard him at all.
I was at an Arcade Fire gig way back in May 2005 and had no idea who / what was the support act so when this young chap with a violin step out onto the stage I was thinking "what carp am I abouit to be subjected to now". A spell binding / mind blow 30 minutes later, I was borrowing cash from a friend to rush to the merch stand to buy the album. Owen even signed the album for me when by accident I bumped into him after the gig. I still have very vivid memories of those moments, although no doubt my brain has enhanced the memory (well memory is like that isn't it). Being totally non musical we ended up discussing names (he sharing the same name as my elsest son who I had drag out we me that night).
I've been trapped ever since....I suppose the fact that Heartland became the album of choice for my younger childrens bed time music was one of those goosebump moments. Not played so often now, as The Suburbs seems to have infected my youngest mind totally now.

Sitting in the top balcony at a concert hall when I was 16; I was so far away I could barely see, but it didn't really matter. I get insane nostalgia chills when I hear the first loop of That's When the Audience Died.

the last time he came to edmonton, i decided it would be a super great idea to get really high and go see him with a friend. it was literally the most transcendental experience of my life.
