So, after doing Heartland to death I decided to look back at He Poos Clouds, and thanks to lyrics websites and some guy's blog, I now have a better understanding and appreciation for the album. But it made me wonder (as I didn't find out about Owen until last year and might have missed an similar discussion), how many of you guys have an interest in role-playing and role-playing games?
My own history with RP lies in Dungeons and Dragons (mostly 3rd edition, managed to get into it as 2nd ed. was on the way out), Call of Cthulhu, and role-playing in a variety of MMOs. There is something wonderful about sitting down with a group of friends, letting go of all the world and diving into some makeshift fantasy for a couple of hours.
But enough of me. Who here plays, or LARPs, or does whatever else? Who has never done so but is interested? How did you react to HPC in light of any role-playing expirience you had?

Ha, I was half-expecting this to be an actual -roleplay thread- when I opened it... I definitely stumbled upon OP because I saw the name "Final Fantasy" in someone's iTunes listing and thought, " " I've played D&D on and off -- we started a campaign in my dorm last year, but then they scheduled intramural basketball on the same night, and all the dudes (including the DM) bailed. As far as video games go, I used to play a lot of JRPGs when I was younger. I realized pretty quickly that I sucked at Mario, et cetera, so selecting attacks from a menu was a nice alternative. I was fantastically in love with the Final Fantasy series for a long while, but when I turned 16 or 17 I found that I'd completely lost interest in the genre. The idea of wandering around this giant world was fun, but I would basically just spend forever obsessively trying to fulfill every directive, and I'd never actually finish the game. I didn't have the patience for my own methods, I guess. Also, the voice acting sucked. I still really enjoy games like Shadow of the Colossus, and old LucasArts point-n-clicks. (Can I interest you in these fine leather jackets?) As for MMOs, I play a pretty unhealthy amount of Lord of the Rings Online, and roleplay somewhat regularly, because running around Khazad-dûm just isn't geeky enough already. I honestly have to say that I don't think my "roleplaying" has really changed my perception of the way I think about any of Owen's music. I think there's definitely something to be said for the presence of the idea of a fourth wall in Heartland, but other than that, I'm not quite sure yet. I don't really feel it necessary to understand Heartland on a really textual level today. I'm really happy just listening to it, right now. Yeah. That was super long. I guess my inner nerd is oppressed or something. You guys understand.

I wish this was a real Final Fantasy RP thread, in which case I would play Thom Gill, 'cause I "haven't been in love for ages!"

Call me for the part when the mysterious girl breaks into my house and attacks me with a bottle of Astroglide.
Oh, Dungeons and Dragons-type role playing...

Using our knowledge of Spectrum based on the EP, the LP, and various extra tracks (A Watery Day, Lewis' Dream, etc.), we'd have a difficult time forming a complete world to work in.
Plus, because Heartland is so much about breaking the fourth wall, it would have to be an RP about people RPing...?

I was really afraid this was an actual RP thread. If it had been, I would have played Patrick Wolf <: (no really, I wouldn't have participated)
I played World of Warcraft for some years in middle school, when I didn't have any good friends, and everyone around me were idiots. I played pretty excessively for a while, had a level 60 hunter with full tier 2. Then I started high school and pretty much stopped instantly.
I really love Kingdom Hearts and Diablo (I can't wait for Diablo 3). I've only played a bit of FF and D&D, and never FF7 D:
