Just finished my theme and variations I had to write for my music course. I spent a good deal of my ride to/from Montreal writing it, and finally finished it up. It's one theme and two variations on the melody from Arcade Fire's "Accidents," off their early demo. I'm really, really, really proud of it. Have a midi of the score, for solo piano. I've tested out each position and yes, with a bit of pedalwork and 10ths in one hand, it's technically possible. Attachments:

Holy Crap thats amazing Matt!! 'mazing!! Thanks Richie, glad you like it!! If I get any further I'll let you know . I'm planning to go into lots of brief, solo, character-introducing sections next which will all work contrapuntally, sung simultaneously later... Wish I had more time for composing at the moment.... so tired.....!

Yeah I just listened to this, it's pretty wonderful. Oh, and Matt, your vocoder song reminded me of an Imogen Heap song. I guess that's because you used a similar method? I don't really know how that works but it sounds cool. And thanks for sharing, Sam is it? It's nice to know I can come to this page every now and then to hear something new.

Ben, this is such a lovely cover! I especially liked the layering towards the end, it's simply beautiful! As an accordion/trumpet player who has failed at covering Beirut many times, you are my hero.

Hi again. Sorry for indulging , but I'd love for any feedback/thoughts on these new songs and their orchestrations if anyone has a moment... I'm recording some bits with session musicians on April 18, so very glad for any constructive criticism before then . Levels/mix in these two demos aren't perfect, but you'd get an idea. www.mattwinkworth.co.uk/Sea2.mp3www.mattwinkworth.co.uk/Tea2.mp3Thanks in advance.

Matt, I love the brass on the second track - it'd be amazing to hear that redone with a full arrangement So, I've recently developed an embarrassing geeky obsession with steampunk. These tracks (and the poserish photoshoot) are the result... www.myspace.com/indefatigablesteamHope you guys like 'em!

Thanks for listening, Neptune! I've really enjoyed listening to your two tracks, especially the first one - that brass/percussion riff. I can definitely hear the Tom Waits influence (in a good way!) And cute photo shoot.
There was an Steampunk art exhibition here in Oxford this year... don't s'pose you saw it?
