dont ever delete your music, especially if it hasn't been made into a cd. I recorded a whole bunch of songs last summer that were sweet, and lost them when i was moving laptops. =( The same thing happened to my first album. Mind you, it wasn't that great, but I liked listening to it. I only have one song left; it's on my myspace and I'm afraid to ever take it down, lest it be lost forever. Myspace can hold like 10 songs on it now, can't it? You don't have to take every song down.

P.S. Kind of finished, we might rerecord the vocals with something other than a built in microphone for better quality but that always takes forever to actually happen.

This is cooler than my track of the day on New Music Canada!!! It's amazing! I was starting to wonder if you had given up on the cover, or if you were just refusing to share it with us, but here it is, and it's brilliant!!! I'm running out of exclamation marks here, so I better calm down!!!!! Seriously, I never thought in a million-and-seventeen years that someone would do a cover of one of my songs, much less make it more nightclub-friendly. It's actually perfect the way you reinterpreted it, as I originally intended for Amateur to be like techno-dance music, only on the accordion, but it always ended up sounding like polka. This makes me so happy, not to mention it's a major ego boost, but it should be a mutual ego boost, because you really did a great job. Tell your friend I loved her vocals; much better than my whiny voice. Is it alright if I send this to some of my fans (friends), or maybe put it up on my MySpace? Unless of course you're planning to upgrade your mic; it still sounds way better than my cheap computer microphone.

Yeah, you can totally let other people hear it; I'll let you know I finish an improved edit.
But thanks so much! I'm really happy you like it. That's very serendipitous, not to mention that after working on it I ran into my friend who has at least one accordion and knows how to play and was like "Isabel! I know we've been trying to start our recorder and ukulele based Antony & the Johnsons cover band for months but I need to come over to your house and make dance music with lots of accordion!" so if you've got any accordion riffs or anything you think are good for that kind of thing I'd love to try to do something with them.
Anyway, I don't even know how I feel about my part in this since the whole reason I did it was because I thought the original song was so good, just that the recording was sort of messy; in fact, I think I actually had the same reaction to a few songs on the album you posted and had to curb my urge towards reinvention.
Also thanks Richie, this is super gratifying that the people who've heard it so far like it. (I haven't put much music up publicly.)
P.S. Your track of the day on New Music Canada? This sounds exciting.

P.S. Your track of the day on New Music Canada? This sounds exciting. That was actually a while ago. On the cbc radio 3 website where I posted those songs, they have a daily blog that posts one selected song from a registered artist as the track of the day. Stakeout Fakeout Makeout was track of the day for January 28th, 2009. There's a link to it on my MySpace blog. I too have problems with the state of the recordings. I was listening to them again last night, and at some parts I just cringed at the quality. Perhaps if I had some smokin' record deal I might've put a little more effort in to it, but I didn't really expect anyone else to hear it except for me and a few friends. I like recording, it's fun. I just finished writing an e.p. and I know a couple guys with their own record label. They have a much more elaborate recording setup, and I'm hoping I can score enough friend points with them to let me use it, and maybe make a more legitimate sounding album. Oh and Sarpedon, I love Popcorn and Sprinkles! It's probably my favourite so far.

My new vocalist fits perfectly with my music, and I think musically I'm finding my niche, so expect consistency!

hahaha that's such a great statement to be to have said about you, and not entirely overblown I might add, since you are making pretty cool use of accordion in a way that doesn't to be the most common.
And btdubzzzzz Sarpedon, I'm glad you made the choice to go the guest vocalist route, I think it was a very good idea - not to sound too backhanded or anything, I feel like that might just end up making me sound like a dick. The new song is good, do you plan on going back and replacing old vocals with vocals by the new girl?

Its a tough call, since this is a musical re-invention, I'm probably going to put down most of the old songs. but who's to say that I won't rewrite some of the better ones and add her vocals?
edit: and no, you didn't sound like a dick, I above all people knew my vocal limitations, and they could not even sound half-right in this new genre, so yeah.

Our very own Boy of Bark was on TV in Utah on Tuesday! I'm going to take the liberty of bragging on his behalf. The TV hosts were a bit whacky, and they had to shorten his performance, but other than that it was pretty cool. Heres the link: connect2utah.com/content/video/?cid=46521
