I finished an EP. You can listen to one of the songs here. soundcloud.com/anamateur/dreamworldThere are some other songs there if it takes your fancy. One of our former members, Keren (aka kiwiolive) sings on Sleepover and is generally wonderful, in case you weren't around back in the day.

What ever happened to Keren? headless / White Palms, I've just purchased your album and it's bloody marvellous. Amateur, your album is beautiful. Sleepover is a highlight for me, as is Somnolence. What's the instrument that comes in at around 1:50? In my own news, my band Backyards have finished our first EP and it's up for pre-order on bandcamp. We've got a preview video of our recording sessions with clips from each track on the EP here: If you like what you hear, you can pre-order it here, and you get an immediate download of a 3 track live session we did with local BBC radio --> backyards.bandcamp.com/Woop!

Yo Ben, watched the youtube video: your band has that "slick/fluid" style of rhythm with the shuffled drums I haven't heard in quite a while, and have TOTALLY MISSED! I would attempt to name the genre, but I can't exactly describe it I have no idea if this was intentional or not, but regardless, it's really nice to hear someone new incorporating these elements, looking forward it! --- On another note, I used to post some of my early attempts at recording on here, but now have been studying lots of theory and practicing singing daily; the only problem is I am having a hell of a time actually writing songs :/ I can lay down a progression, or drum beat, any individual part, but it never fleshes out into a "song." anyone have any recommendations for the creatively dry?

Hey Sarpedon, cheers for the kind words! Yeah, I pretty much feel that the most important member in the band by a long way is our drummer, she's amazing at turning our ideas into real/interesting songs and then keeping the whole thing together.
Which leads into my answer to your question - my advice is to get someone else involved. This has never failed to a) give me a perspective on the stuff I'm coming up with and b) get my arse into gear with actually finishing things.

Ben! I like it a lot. Also: I agree with the "get someone else involved" thing.
Since we're talking about projects, I'm now playing banjo and singing in a folk band. What. A real live band! We practice and have shows and things! I'm writing country songs that feature lines like "I tied up my heart in the luggage rack/I'm gone now and I won't come back"! Isn't that awful? But kind of hilarious and wonderful? I don't even know.
Although I should say: it's the first thing musically in a long time that I've done that can't be in some way traced back to FF/OP/"that style", so it feels like a whole new world. And I love the banjo.

Ben your band sounds excellent! I too am going to be recording an EP, though it's just going to be a demo EP so that I have something to say for myself, nothing fancy, just my vocals and guitar. I've also been playing violin for a year after a hiatus due to lack of financing and it's been great. I really hope you enjoy it, Elise.

Hey guys, this is the only forum I frequent and love seeing what you're all up to. Here's to hoping this thread never ends. I did these 5 songs on my own this last year, I'm a slow producer but I'm very proud of them. They're about death and love and sex and decisions, but mostly about me. If you're interested in contributing to my next efforts e-mail me at sam-led_zeppelin@hotmail.com and I'll definitely send a reply. Hope to see.hear some comments! soundcloud.com/samuel-rainer/sets/time-is-lost

Hey everyone, I just finished an EP of demos if you want to give it a listen. It's nothing special but it's something to advertise, anyways. You can download it for free at alearae.bandcamp.com or stream it on soundcloud.com/alearae

What microphone did you use? What was your set up? I love the tone of the vocal recording. The guitar's been captured really nicely too.

We used a Shure SM57 and SM58 to record the guitar, and a Rode condenser mic for the vocals in my friend's living room studio. It was a pretty modest set up.
