Hey Yeah, I'm usually the same. I find it hard to write without an image or narrative. Well, that all sounds very promising . What's the line-up of your band? And what's the website? And yes, definitely worth persevering with notation IMO. Writing stuff down is usually an integral part of composing/arranging for me - I know everyone works differently though. I just find it gives a more tangible/visible sense of structure, space, etc... (I know that sounds rather pretentious, but you know what I mean I really enjoyed this. Are there live videos of your quintet? I'd be up for having a go at writing for you too, if I find any time...! I've got something to share: www.vimeo.com/17673557This is a sound art piece written by composer Phil Kline - I saw it in New York last Christmas and, with the help of Oxford Contemporary Music, arranged a presentation here this Christmas. It was magical and exciting . I've also written a cheesy Christmas song which I'll post when I've finished recording it xx

Hey Yeah, I'm usually the same. I find it hard to write without an image or narrative. I use words like this, instead of images. Expressing the layers of connotation and definition to communicate emotion...! Like...in my last term of composition seminar we had an assignment to illustrate a verb through music. Most people chose something like "shimmer" or "fall" - something that evokes a picture. I composed "worry". I'm an odd duck. I really enjoyed this. Are there live videos of your quintet? I'd be up for having a go at writing for you too, if I find any time...! No live videos of the quintet yet, but stay posted. Totally email me if you come up with anything for us.

I've composed about worry a few times - for programatic music of course, but it's not such an uncommon theme. It would be interesting to know how your worry sounds. I wrote a quartet for each virtue in the Psychomachia (diligence, temperance, humility, patience, humanity, purity) and every year I compose for +1 clarinet about a Final Fantasy (the game) spell. I did already Haste+Fira for solo clarinet, and O Hai! Esuna for two clarinets. This year it'll be for either three clarinets or two clarinets and clarone (bass clarinet) and I'm thinking of doing Diaga or Demiga or Protera or something. I also have the first part of a three-part marimba series on fertility, being this first part called The God of Rice... and then I have a ton of themed videogame/roleplaying game/soundtrack music. And I have my 10-minute-long symphonic piece!!! I wish I had any chance of organizing anything remotely like this in Brazil.

It would be interesting to know how your worry sounds. Tense and repetitive and smeary, like sight to a squinting myopic.

I'm about 40 seconds into the first part of a song cycle based on the 4 directions. I promised myself I'd write it during winter break, let's see if that works out.
It's pretty, so far. More tonal then most stuff I write. It's even got a key signature.

1. I don't think 'silly' is appropriate for any music piece. 2. This is cool, and denotes a very interesting relation you have with music. Don't ever let it go away! 3. I could actually understand all the lyrics! Wow. 4. That part of the ships sailing in is not yours, is it? It sounds a bit like an appendage. Very cool one, I've got that stuck on my head now.

Well, it was kinda s'posed to be silly/cliche . I only made that demo in a couple of hours though, I usually make a bit more effort with arrangement. On Thursday I performed it with some friends (harmonium/bass/guitar/glock/french horn), was really fun! And yes, that bit is "I Saw Three Ships", a traditional English carol! Thanks for listening...

Well. I just uploaded an unapologetically self-indulgent instrumental album. What do people think? apistat.bandcamp.com/(apologies available upon request)

I dunno about "talent"... but I guess my new piano composition project thing qualifies as music, and I uploaded a new one! fawm.org/songs/12230/It has a lot of "boom, crash". Fun.

Hello everybody We played a gig for BBC Introducing on Friday night and we've just found a rather lovely write-up/review which I thought you might like to have a look at! www.thebluewalrus.com/2011/03/07/the-360-club-%E2%80%93-the-library-leeds/--We're 'BACKYARDS', at the bottom. We've got a few recordings here but they're crap, we're recording this week though so when we get some good things out I'll be sure to post them here. Spread the word!
