I love Arvo Pärt with all of my heart. Have you heard is Seven Magnificat Antiphons?

Somebody already mentioned Ravel's string quartet, may I also suggest Debussy's String quartet as well, it's in the same impressionist style and they are both absolutely gorgeous. Did someone mention The Rite of Spring yet I don't recall? If not then it's by Stravinsky...look it up. Thomas Ades is quite good (his chamber opera Powder Your Face is definitely something to be seen, pick up the video). Toru Takemitsu, very interesting. That's all I have off the top of my head right now... I leave you all with the single most disturbing piece of music I have ever heard/seen...and I've listened to some weird things. www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGwOXGwspXcwatch it and be horrified

I mean, the title says it all..

hi everyone, thought i'd join in the conversation as this is an interesting topic and since i've been a reader of the board for ages.. that Pärt piece was the best thing i've heard by him, beautiful stuff. I'd recommend Finnish composer Eino-Juhani Rautavaara, who uses recordings of arctic birds in his work Cantus Arcticus: www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxsw1w6O1xkalso, i like Korngold a lot although many seem to consider him a bit hollywood-y; this performance of the second movement of his violin concerto in d with soloist Jascha Heifetz is the best recording i've found so far (and they seem to be fairly hard to come across) www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwPdcaU8YJw

I love Arvo Pärt with all of my heart. Have you heard is Seven Magnificat Antiphons? I went and listened and it's absolutely jolly good stuff The only major problem is that I'm only scratching the surface and it's going to take a while to get through all of the back catelogue. Expensive to buy as well. I've listened to Fratres, Kanon Pokajanen and Seven Magnificat Antiphons so far and they are all astounding.
