I'm hunting a few on ebay, there's one that's only at £20 (I'm from England, by the way!) and it's ending soon. I may get lucky.
There's a few different brands that include Cubase, which I've never used. Could I connect that with the looping software? I didn't hear that mentioned though. I will have to do this all one step at a time, anyway, as I don't have as much money as I'd like to think, ha!

oh yeah, you can connect it with any audio recording program; I'm sure any interface would work as well, I just think lexicon makes the cheapest good one, I'm even currently using the alpha (just with a phantom power adapter, condenser mic, and nanokey midi controller)

Thanks for the hardware advice. I've now - sort of - got what I need to get the sooperlooper to work. AU lab. Jackpilot, and sooperlooper. I opened AU lab and I configured it to pick up my macs in built mic (just for now, so I can test it). I need to configure it to network to the looper and the Jackpilot from here. If anyone understands how to get it all up and running quickly and easily, it might help.

from website: "For the OS X package, a double-clickable application is provided that starts the GUI and and engine for you. Before starting the SooperLooper application, be sure to start the JACK system using the JackPilot application that came with JACK-OSX. You need to explicitly press the Start button after launching JackPilot. Then use the Routing features of JackPilot to connect the inputs and outputs of SooperLooper to the desired places. Click on the source, double-click on the destination. Read JACK's documentation PDF for all the details on the flexibility of its inter-application routing system. Also note that AU and VST insert plugins are available to route JACK audio from within other apps as well." more documentation here: www.essej.net/sooperlooper/docs.html

I think I've almost managed to connect the following together (correct or incorrect, who knows)
My input (mic) is connected to AU Lab, and the AU lab 'output device' is: JackRouter, which then apparently sends to Sooperlooper. All seems to be working, except I can't seem to hear any sound. The levels are going up and down though, so they are actually receiving the sound. It's not muted or anything either. I must have a few things missing. If anyone knows what I have done, then feel free to let me know.

Ive looked in to the Boss Rc-20 and apparently its biggest problem is that it has a lot of unnecessary features like the Quantize function and the Autostart function that just make it impractical and harder to use while adding to the price.

Hey there, just thought I would add my two cents.
I like hard gear so I use the Lexicon JamMan (different from the Digitech one). Its memory is pretty poor--32 seconds is the most memory you're gonna see on one--but it CORRECTLY SYNCS TO MIDI CLOCK which is a big deal if you're trying to sync it with synthy sequencer type things. The RC-50 supposedly does this, too, but I hear it often syncs incorrectly and fucks up the sound.
Good luck! Loops are fun!

Hello (again) I'm reviving this thread even though it's not entirely relevant to what I'm asking, but I'm hoping I can get some musical help from you people again, as it would seem I am hopeless. I bought a reasonably cheap USB audio interface (behringer), and I'm having some trouble getting it all connected. This is my set up
Microphone (input) > Preamp (output to the input of) > Interface (USB to) > Macbook.
The preamp is picking up the microphone, and I have the output going into the Interface. However with the monitor on I'm hearing no sound. I have my headphones plugged into the interface with the monitor on, but I can actually hear the sounds from my macbook i.e. when I adjust the volume I hear the little click sound. Have I done anything wrong? I don't really understand, I have a diagram and from what I can see, I've done it all correctly. I tested another cable but it's not made a different. It must be something to do with preamp output > interface input. Is this wrong? They are both behringer too.
EDIT: Ah! After reading, the cables I am supposed to be using are RCA cables, I have found some and put the red one in the red hole, and the white in the white. However, my preamp does not have this sort of cable, and is a male jack. Is there some way of adapting RCA to Male jack? Frustrations. It feels like I'm doing it all so backwards but it's odd that there's different types of cables with different plugs needed on either side.

I'd try Radioshack (online or at the store), they have a lot of various audio connection converters.
