Anyone know what the first song on the first video is? I tried finding it through the lyrics but couldn't.

Anyone know what the first song on the first video is? I tried finding it through the lyrics but couldn't. "This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)" by Talking Heads. Trivia!: Owen covered it with The Arcade Fire and didn't think they were going to use it so he took his violin riff and made Furniture from that

Whoa! Thanks for posting the Regina videos. I know Owen's probably sick of playing these songs, but they just get better and better. Good work! (and) Thank you, sir!

CBC Radio 3 put out a video podcast on the Regina Folk Festival, featuring a music video for Kevin Drew's "Safety Bricks" which I rather like, and some footage of our own Mr. Pallett.

The Victoria/Rifflandia Festival performance was fantastic -- even some expressed doubters of our darling were convinced after seeing Owen live. Mostly new stuff, with the obvious favorites thrown in.
Got the EPs! They didn't arrive 'til hot stuff and boyfriend management came in with them ... for a bit there were only the LPs and T-shirts at the merch table, it was unnerving. Plays to Please sounds like a cutesy Neil Hannon -- from first listens Spectrum seems to be of finer stuff. But I couldn't fully absorb them last night ... I really wanted to listen to Julian Cope after the show.
And Chet (who opened the night) were totally knockout -- hooray for Frog Eyes progeny!
Unrelated -- Zac of PGirls emailed me back saying there aren't any current plans to play the city, this for some reason had me squealing with delight.

Bumbershoot was fantastic as well! I ended up getting pretty close, even though I got there just a few minutes before. There were a lot of chairs set up for some reason, so it wasn't too hard to sneak through. Owen played a lot of new stuff, which was great! He came out afterward to talk to people, and I asked him about the names of the new songs he played, and we talked about classical music too. The setlist was: - The Great something (I forget the last word that he said ) - This Lamb Sells Condos - The Man with No Ankles - Cockatrice - The Butcher - Flare Gun - E is for Estranged - Lewis Takes Action - Many Lives -> 49 MP - He Poos Clouds (acoustic) - This is the Dream of Win and Regine (with some synth!) - Lewis Takes Off His Shirt - and for encore: CN Tower

Owen just seems to perform better and better every time I see him. Did you pick up one of the limited edition posters too? From the looks of it, there were only 12 made. It always makes me so happy after every FF show to talk to people who hadn't heard him before the performance and became instantly converted!! Share the Joy!! The new songs were really amazing and quite blew me away. The whole show was so very fresh, I thought it was a bold move to keep the standards to a minimum and play songs that most people aren't familiar with. Somehow when I hear songs live first it just makes so much more sense when you hear the recorded versions. It's like "Ahhh! I get it! I get it." Or maybe that didn't make much sense, I'm not terribly good at explaining these things. :/ Stephanie's projector art show was also Fresh and New and completely lovely!! As always, her art serves to just enhance the whole experience and make it that much more magical. Unfortunately my friend's photos didn't turn out very well as the angle of the some of the lights interfered, but if there's a couple good ones I'll post them up later. Did anyone happen to capture any audio/video from this show??? I really wish I could have seen the setlist for this concert but it was not to be. Oh Ohhh!!!! Chet was quite good and the lead singer's voice is very wonderful but I felt they might have misinterpreted where the endings to some of their songs should be. Just my own opinion of course. But what I REALLY have to talk about was the other opening act, Tanya Tagaq! She performs throat singing in the most unusual way possible accompanied by a cellist. I have never seen anything like it, it was eerie and emotional and intense and fucking Brilliant!!! She goes from the low growls and breathiness of traditional throat singing interspersed with high soprano-like arias. Unbelievable!!! The whole evening = Trés Magnifique!!!! ;D
