My mom found this article in the Abbotsford Times yesterday under 'Forum planned to follow on downtown cleanup project'.
The very beginning of the article says that there will be a public forum set for June to talk about the downtown area, specifically crime, prostitution, drug trafficking and you guessed it graffiti.
The article outlines the topics for the public forum and the 'success stories' they have already had with the downtown area. ( ex. The crack apartement building being torn down, the increase of police night patroles etc.)
At the end of the article this small bit from, I'm assuming, the Graffiti Task Force was written under the sub-heading 'Graffiti Web'.
" Graffiti Web
Abbotsford City workers will launch a Web site within the next month outlining the negative affects of graffiti and how to remove it, said graffiti task force chariman Paul Lowen.
The group's job is primarily to identify graffiti sites, photograph "tags" for cataloguing, inform city departements where it is and educate property owners that graffiti leads to more vandalism, Lowen added. "
Why do they need to record, photograph and catalogue tags? Is it some sort of attempt at unsolving the mystery of who the writers are so that they can fine them for vandalism?
I also enjoyed the last line, that 'graffiti leads to more vandalism'. Lets not forget to brainwash all the civilians of Abbotsford into thinking that people who do paint graffiti are responsable for ALL the vandalism in this town, right down to the sharpie scribbles on city bus stops.
I find it funny that the city thinks they will somehow be able to control the "graffiti problem".
