So I really, really want to buy a looping pedal for my guitar and I was wondering which would be best for me. I was wondering what type of pedal Owen uses, also.
Does anyone have any suggestions/badexperiences/pros/cons?
Was looking into:
Boss RC-20XL Akai Headrush Digitech Jam Man
I was wondering about the Boss RC-50 as well. But it is quite expensive, and was questioning if I could get similar results in a less expensive pedal.
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

The Boss RC-20 is the most popular choice and it's good and I used it for years. Currently I'm using a Max/MSP application to indulge some multidimensional fantasies.
If you have a computer (which it seems you do) you should look into buying a Wii remote and using Wii Looper. There's a link to it at musicthing.blogspot.com.

I got the rc-50 a while back when I started doing looping. I got it instead of the rc-20 because it could store loops, and I thought I would probably want to store drum loops. But that feature actually doesn't work so well, and it's a pain in the ass to try and mix the stored loop volume with the volume of what you're playing. I ended up just buying a sampling pad to loop the drums by playing them.
However, I don't regret the purchase, simply because I think the rc-50 gives more control over looping performance, since you can separate and control the loops with the three phrase pedals. I've never used an rc-20 though.
One other issue I had with the 50 was that the fade-out using the expression pedal never fades completely out. Minor annoyance, which I think I could solve if I messed with it a bit.

Thanks Owen. If you have any more advice feel free to inform me. Although the Wii Looper looked very interesting, it is only availabe for Mac (At least, that is the only version I've seen for download)! Thus, I cannot get it. I've looked in Max/MSP though and it looks pretty complex. I may try downloading a trial though just to see if I can tinker around with it. How difficult is it to get the hang of?
Also: I've looked into the RC-50 and heard that it has various problems. This troubles me as it would be a shame to drop $500 on a looper that has problems.
I have looked into buying the RC-20/XL and it seems promising, although, it also has been reported to be sort of faulty, and also it troubles me that you cannot store loops.

The rc-50 is not all bad. I would say it's just $100-$150 overpriced. I'm just too lazy to do the extra work required to mix stored loops. The actual storing of it works fine.

Yeah. The trouble is I don't want to spend $500+ on a pedal. If I can find it on ebay for cheaper I may get it.
I've heard some good stuff about the Digitech JamMan. Does anyone have info on that, and also the Boomerang Phrase Sampler?

hey Owen (or anyone), I looked up the Wii remote and Wii looper after the mention here, but it was unclear to me if the Wii remote can take input from an instrument (e.g., my violin) and loop that. Do you know if it can? Has anyone here used it personally? How easy is it compared to some of the pedals mentioned here? I'd like to get a nice introductory piece of hardware - something not too expensive or hard to use, but also something worth the money for a while until I decide whether I want to invest in better equipment.

If I understood the concept (which I think I did), you have to record the sample you want to use on your Mac ( they don't have a Microsoft version yet) and you play with you do some movements with the Wiimote (the software does not use the Wii, only the Wiimote). If you want an example of how it is used, there's some videos on the website of the software: www.theamazingrolo.net/wii/?page_id=14You should watch the first video (the one with the piano). Hope I helped you

If your looking for cheap, the boss rc-2 is relatively good for its small price tag. No reverse, though, and you might need the extra foot pedal if your not gifted with quick feet.
