So, everybody should go listen to the new Sam Amidon song that's just been posted on Pitchfork. I barely know Sam but I've listened to his upcoming record about fifty times since Nico (Sam's arranger) e-mailed it to me.
Don't let the video turn you off. In fact, turn off the screen and just listen to it, the song is perfection.

I KNOW, RIGHT? Someone sent me this song a little while ago and since then it's been stuck in my head, and I had to go through and figure out the chords and changes and cover it myself.

I work in an HMV in Edmonton, ordered this before its release date, it came in last week and I'm hooked. I'm passing it around to get my friends and coworkers hooked (theyre all music fiends too, and will end up buying it just for the hard copy).
Thanks for the tip! My manger tells me Damien Jurado's similar, but I'm not so sure...

I'd been put off by not getting excited about the previous very folksy album, but someone else also recommended the new one and I have to admit it's very jolly good. It's got much better atmosphere and feels much more spacecious. The clincher for me is fusion of the folk and the brass together.

And there's bassoon! Bassoon and folk together...yet another step in the direction of woodwinds in pop-tradition music.

what is the box contraption he's using? I remember once I got taken to a gig in an abandoned theatre and there was a lady who whistled the different calls of random morning birds and looped it into a giant sound of morning-ness... Anyway, after that she used the same contraption and it had me puzzled

It looks like one of those old compact Farfisa organs, neat. Wedding dress is a great song, fun to play.
