"Heartland nationalism": Canada's own, or that of another place, or of all places? Any of those would be interesting -- but the first carries rather more intrigue, given your work with the CBC. I'm impatient to hear how you'll treat this subject!
As for shows, your Vancouver gig in September is widely agreed to be among the best the city saw all year. No exaggeration. Chris-a-riffic of They Shoot Horses, Don't They? summed it up best, perhaps: "Final Fantasy made me throw my piano in the river after his performance because why try anymore?" Based on what we heard that night, I'd hazard a guess that your success rate with shows is a darn sight higher than 75%. Beautiful night.

The connotations of "Heartland" are intended. The album title is meant to evoke that mysterious sense of homestead nationalism. Thats what it did for me. "Heartland" doesn't sound like a Final Fantasy album title, especially not after something as random sounding as "He Poos Clouds". It was funny to tell people and I doubt anyone has ever thought of a more wonderful usage of the word poo. Anyhow, it's nice to hear that you'll get some time off. Releasing two albums in less than a year and touring for what sounds like an endless amount of time both before and after the release warrants anyone some time off. That makes me think of Thom Yorke and how he toured for about two years after "OK Computer" was released. He went through massive bouts of depression after that and a while later he released his very different, very unstructured "Kid A" album. I can't help but wonder how your music would change if you went through something similar.

I think it sounds like a Final Fantasy album, it seems to carry a similar sounding sentiment to the words "Has a Good Home". I like it. I can't wait to hear it.
Maybe "He Pukes Rainbows" next?

I think it's hilarious and awesome that we're going from a title with so much controversy and amused bewilderment attached to something that will be so...accepted. Down-home goodness from the gay harpsichord nerd himself!

I think it's kinda funny that he's had two albums, and things can already 'not sound like a Final Fantasy album.'

I think it's kinda funny that he's had two albums, and things can already 'not sound like a Final Fantasy album.' Yes, it does sound kind of funny. But look at the titles of most of his songs; you have things like "The Pooka Sings", "If I Were a Carp", "Adventure.exe", "The CN Tower Belongs to the Dead", and so forth. They have a kind of fantastical air to them, some of the other song titles less or more so. "Heartland" does not seem like the title to a Final Fantasy album to me because, as I quoted Owen, "(it) is meant to evoke that mysterious sense of homestead nationalism." When I hear the word heartland I think of America because all the times I've ever heard it used in music it has been done by an American singer. It makes me picture a rancher in Montana or Texas or something. The usage of the words homestead nationalism just made me think of that even more, because the stereotypical idea of Americans is that they are all people who have a strong pride in their country. I'm not saying "Heartland" is a bad choice, I just think the title doesn't seem like a Final Fantasy alum title. As someone mentioned earlier, it has shades of Paul Simon in it. Or Lyle Lovett. It's not like I want the title changed, that's just my immediate reaction. Maybe nearer the release or upon hearing the album I might not think of it that way. In the end, does it matter to me? No, his music will be on that album and that's all I care about.

I like how he has continued with optimistic titles. It suits the nature of the act and is kinda clever in a weird sort of way.

i know its like who the fuck am i to say this, but if we're talking heartland as in this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heartland_rockthen i hope owen is going to maintain the level of complexity and 'pretence' hi and i love so much on the next one and not end up doing a bad impression of the boss or sounding like arctic monkeys. actually i could deal with a bad springsteen impression p[retty well

The new album is being sketched out and it's called "Heartland". *tears of joy* a Political Science's concept used in music.
