Saw Everything's Gone Green at the Van Film Fest yesterday and loved it. Really funny film about anxiety in the turn-of-the-thirties generation; also a perfect quirky postcard of contemporary Vancouver. Douglas Coupland is so good at all that.
And excellent soundtrack too, even apart from the FF song. The opening of The CN Tower Belongs to the Dead was used rather beautifully, and dramatically at about the Midpoint.
See it if ya can!

Imagine a 50-foot beached whale as the catalyst for an encounter with the gurentai Yakuza. Your parents with a thriving grow-op franchise. And these things help "sort out" your life. Coupland rules.
Catgut too right about the evocative effect of "CN Tower;" it plays over a gondola's-eye view climbing the green heights of Whistler/Grouse mountain, just before the protagonist reaches his nadir. The rest of the soundtrack is also great, including cuts from the Deadly Snakes, Jason Collett, Black Mountain, & the Golden Dogs.
Incidentally, some of you UK kids might've seen Coupland live before, on your turf. He performed his RSC-commissioned, one-man play, "September 10, 2001," at Stratford-U-A in Oct-04. His new one, "Life After God," opens this Nov. in VanCan.

i get a strong feeling Everything's Gone Green won't be out anywhere else...
i'm a fan of Coupland's. though sometimes i hate England and its refusal to be Canada.

Meryl - there's hope yet; I hear that US and UK release dates are tba in near future. Keep an eye out for it at Doug's site: coupland.com, or the distrubutors: shorelineentertainment.com. You'd be surprised at how "England-y" (and British-Isley) some parts of Canada still are. Just look at Victoria BC's huge Crystal Palace reproduction, tearooms, garden fetish, and British Naval influences--and that's just the west coast. Culturally, some of us are, if not anglophilic, at least excessively "anglo-knowledgeable;" cool in a subversively post-colonial way, but no wonder we've got issues with national identity... [Our love/hate of big brother USA will also have something to do with it]

ah, thank you, LiederLust. that's something to look forward to, then. i'll keep an eye on the university theatres, they're likeliest to pounce on it. and re. Canada: i do get that sense, actually, though grass-is-greener syndrome makes it hard for me to imagine anyone identifying themselves as anglophilic... i shall have to see for myself someday soon.

there could be an entire score composed by owen -Yah; he could do a song cycle involving the Evil-Doug's rise to power via The DGlobe (coming soon for real, shouldn't wonder; check out these "analog" iterations at WORLD PROCESSOR: worldprocessor.com/catalog/world/). *Also, Owen's Internet (the original, natch) could guest...
