I've just brought some very expensive (for me) headphones (Sennheiser HD 25 @ £120)...
and OMG Owen, I've fallen in love with your music all over again. Instead of just right to left the sounds more all about your head.
Try to listen on decent headphones (if you don't already) and get the chance.
Owen what do you think about most people listening on poor quality headphones (no offense to poor quality headphone users!)?

I know you asked Owen what he thought, but I thought I might share what I've found, and I do have some odd experiences in perception, anyhow.
What I find is that when listening through 'poor quality' headphones, mood can be totally different. It feels more ... casual, I guess, so, as humans and our lovely innate abilities to tune things out, we can pay less attention. As a result, however, there are keen moments of discovery when powerful moments come about. With 'high quality' headphones, I do find more enjoyment in the music itself, rather than the collection sound. In either case, I do find myself listening to specific instruments, or loops in this case.
All in all, and the point to all of this -- I think it's a mistake to think that 'high quality' means 'best.' There is no one way to listen to music.
