As much as I hate Christmas music, why does that suddenly seem like the cutest thing ever? I just want to hear Owen sing "Pa-Rum-Pa-Pum-Pum". I think that's it for me, too.

I think Pass This On by The Knife could be very interesting.

Whoever said Stephin Merritt: Yes yes yes!
Also, what about some Regina Spektor? 'Fidelity' or 'On the Radio,' maybe?

Maybe what we're really asking here is "Who would you like Owen to tour with?" Final Fantasy covers Bloc Party and, BAM, gets a nice little support slot with them. He's played with and covered Arcade Fire, Simon Bookish, and, I'm sure, others. All I know is that it would be an absolute dream for me if the next time FF comes to Europe, it's with Joanna Newsom or Destroyer. I assume Mariah Carey's unavailable.

Joanna Newsom and Owen together would make an excellent show, their styles are very compatible too in my opinion.

Motion seconded. Well, no, it's kind of thirded ... isn't it? Joanna Newsom and Owen together would make an excellent show, their styles are very compatible too in my opinion.

I can't imagine it. I'm not sure if that's because it wouldn't work, or because it would enter what I'd call a whole new incomprehensible realm of awesomeness. :\

Now that would make my sort-of-boyfriend so incredibly happy (just today he's travelled from the south of England to the north to go and see her, and I've introduced him to FF and he's newly obsessed), but... agh. I can't stand Joanna's voice. If she could just play and Owen would sing?

I don't think Owen and Joanna should play together, it has potential to be dangerous. The gravity of cool surrounding the two of them is so strong that it would cause the venue to develop into a black hole, subsequently causing the world to cave into itself.
I think Owen should try chip music. It's not really covering anything, but I've been listening to a lot of Nullsleep recently. I just thought that Owen's style and interest in older games would make him an interesting chip music composer.

He's been there. He's done that.
How 'bout some Casiotone For The Painfully Alone?

He's been there. He's done that. Really? For what? According to wikipedia, the only thing he did similar music for was the game Traffic Department 2192 (this news is new to me). Has he done anything else? Does the music sound chip-like in that game? Music for TD 2192 would have been composed with a specific purpose in mind, and I was thinking more along the lines of personal work. And yes, Casiotone For the Painfully Alone rocks.

No hate for Rufus. Love Rufus. But "Cigarettes And Chocolate Milk"? Come ON. My favourite Rufus jam is "Poses". Hilarious lyrics!
John Cale. "Paris 1919". I HATE PARIS 1919. That album is like having a more successful and better looking older brother. Steven Kado played it in the Ninja Highschool van and was like, "Check out Owen's new jam!" And they fell for it.
Anyway, I was trying to cover the title track from that cursed thing, to try and make peace with it. Right? But I can't do it. The bridge doesn't lend itself easily to the looping.
So I tried to sell it to Arcade Fire. They bought "Naive Melody" so I thought they might buy this one too. Everyone likes it but I don't know if it'll catch on, they're too busy learning all their own songs.
I also tried working on a cover of "Alpha Omega" by the Mountain Goats, but I messed up the chords, and then I liked my own chords so much that I just changed it into a new Final Fantasy song. Economical!
I'd very much like to cover "New Year's Kiss" by Casiotone, and "Lysine" by Max Tundra, but really, I've got to stop thinking about this crap and keep working on my own records, you know?
