Hello everybody, this is Owen.
"He Poos Clouds" has been nominated for the Polaris Music Prize, meant to be Canada's answer to the Mercury.
The other nominated albums are the latest releases by K'Naan, Malajube, Cadence Weapon, Broken Social Scene, Metric, The Deadly Snakes, Wolf Parade, Sarah Harmer and The New Pornographers.
I'm of two minds about this competition.
Canadian music desperately needs more vanity, I think. I love all these albums and I'm not afraid to say so. I wish more Canadians would feel the same way, instead of viewing our country's music scene as a meritocratic talent show.
Thus, although I'm all for celebration, I'm not sure if picking the "best album" is an appropriate tribute to the hundreds of amazing records that have come out of this country in the last year. I'd rather see Polaris give $2000 to all of these bands, or even better, all the money to bands who haven't yet achieved that nebulous, inconsequential state of "critical acclaim".
But I don't have $20,000, so I don't make the rules. So instead: "Hooray for the Polaris!"
In the unlikely event that "He Poos Clouds" brings home the sunshine, here's my acceptance speech: "There's so much pain and suffering in the world, $20,000 can't possibly solve that. So instead, I'm taking the prize money and using it as a down payment to buy a cottage in the woods to get away from said pain and suffering. All my love, Muffins Fantasy."

I told you that calling your songs 'shitty' was unfair.

I don't have to remind you my opinion on your album, do I Owen?
Being Belgian, I can only guess how important that music prize is, and I hope you'll get it, but only just a nomination is already quite something.
Congratulations!!!

'All my love, Muffins Fantasy' should be the end to every speech.

Owen, I fear the happenings of your musical self if you won this, and truly moved into a cottage in the woods (as delectable as it sounds), and hid away your talents with the record sales surpassing your announced "limit."
you would be greatly missed. by many.

Hi Owen, *buy a cottage in the woods to get away from said pain and suffering....?* Hmm i thought you said you didnt want to become a musical 'recluse' * a la Scott Walker*--but then i dont want to be name calling or quoting from interviews --that truly is a terrible thing-- but im overjoyed to hear that Canada can recognise a truly imaginative and diverse an album as 'He Poo's Clouds'...... ......And i'm glad they took the name with a pinch of salt. sebxx

I still think its nomination might be a bit of an accident. It's cool, though, I don't mind.
If "He Poos Clouds" does win, I'll immediately found the "Rogers Wireless Biggest Tits Award", which will rerout all the dough to the most attractive sources.
I like the Bicycles record. I even love it. And Metric is the winner of this year's Polaris Prize, I called it and I'll betcha $50.

I see you need a lesson in spread betting or have you nobbled the judges already There a load of good stuff in there, although I would have liked to have seen sunset rubdown in the pot as well. Personally I think you work best poor, but that acceptance speech does need using. Perhaps we can arrange an award for best use of the word "poo" in an album title and then it won't go to waste ;D

Congrats on the nomination! Really hope you score it. You're up against a good set of talents but you've got a sure-fire bet of getting it still, methinks.
Your acceptance speech sounds oddly like the attitude I have to my life (though my bedroom has sufficed as my "cottage"...for now).
