so, i've been thinking about the band's decision to leak the album themselves... first, i think the decision to do it in a format that couldn’t be bootlegged at a decent bitrate was brilliant – they knew it was going to leak sooner or later, and with the leak of the video that was intended to be unleashed in 8 days, they decided to dump everything – I wonder if this was the initial plan for January 15th: pull their own small version of a Radiohead, but something that they could feasibly do – interesting – we’ll see how it works, and I’m sure the low bitrate version will be on the file sharing networks for a long time to come, giving people a bit more incentive to buy the album

i feel the leaks and downloading debates can go on forever...i mean there is a lot to say on the matter but everyone is too busy, or at least i'm...so to keep it simple,
even if 'Women as Lovers' was leaked in lossless format, i'll still be buying a copy or 2...people who were going to buy it are going to and people who don't were not going to in the first place...i do not buy into what jamie stew said about the 'Air Force' leak, that the sales were poor 'cause it dripped half a year early, i really really doubt that people who were going to spend their squilla on the album did not 'cause it leaked so fast...it was a real solid album, so i'm sure they even spent more squilla on going to a Xiu gig that year...i mean if that album had not leaked at all, i don't think more non Xiu fans would have bought it out of wonder, and for the people who hated the album and wiped it from their hard drives.. why would you want their squilla?
what i'm trying to say is.. musicians make their incomes from their fanbase.
